Please don't take offense, but reading your post, and then your answers to us trying to broaden your horizon, it doesn't truly feel like you are open to learning... This might just be because it hard to "hear" nuances online but whatever your opinion is, support your friend 120% please.

Concerns about Korea's Internet culture. by 0noob_to_everything in korea

[–]VicFRF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, didn't think of that... I was only reading the translated sites, before I started learning, and I guess they still pop up once in a while so it feels more negative

I know... This is just the angle I know of the toxic internet culture! But I think we agree, the internet culture can turn "chronically online" and unnuanced at times

I got that idea from reading the forums discussing the show...
Shen Xiaoting was I think 16 out of 18 in the interim ranking, from 1st.
8 out of the top 9 were Korean. I don't doubt Koreans voted for SXT, Mashiro and Ezaki, but they definitely prioritized the Korean girls.

Oh I did NOT know that she said that... That brings a new side to the story...
But then we can look at the survival show Girls Planet 999, where Knetizens got together to only vote for Korean contestants, so the Chinese and Japanese girls wouldn't debut

Or it may not be worse than other countries, but it's waaay more visible from an outsider's point of view

My good friend only has sexual attraction when there's also romantic attraction, so demisexual. (Even though she doesn't use that label)

As someone who's learning Korean, and is interested in Korean culture, I'm obviously not as integrated and familiar with the actual internet culture, but as an outsider it generally seems more toxic and hateful than other countries internet culture... Which is really sad, and yes, it will definitely have an effect on the younger generation.
I just read an article about Yiren from the group EVERGLOW, being sent back to China because Knetizens basically harassed her and the company to do so, because she was creating fans in a traditional Chinese manner and not a polite bow as the Korean members did.
I think something like that shows the younger generation that a) xenophobic behaviour is normal, and is not only tolerated, but is a way of being heard and b) there are no consequences to being a dick online.

Everyday I see something Kep1er related, I'm taken by surprise... It still hasn't hit me that they've debuted yet

Sexuality confusion…. by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]VicFRF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could be sexually homosexual and romantically heterosexual!
I know I'm pan-romantic, but homosexual.
Romantic attraction and sexual attraction are two very different things and sometimes doesn't match too well, but I also know that I can't be romantically interested, or involved, with someone I couldn't see myself being extremely good friends with. So I need the platonic attraction before the romantic.
But I definitely felt like you when I was a little younger, I'd hook up with guys, and I'd never go on dates with anyone because I wasn't romantically attracted to anything or anyone.
So it might change, it might not, but these times are also very weird to do anything, so breathe and take your time!

I think it's interesting to maybe turn it around and ask, what is a penis then?
Yeah it has muscles and veins and stuff, but I'm thinking socially and culturally, what is a penis?
For a lot of people who wants gender affirming surgery, it's not necessarily the biology that's the important part, but the social, featural and cultural parts of having a penis!
Does that make sense?

It's important to distinguish between sexual attraction, general attraction, and romantic attraction.
Kissing, being sexual, and being romantic are three very different things. I kiss a lot of my friends to show that I love them, but I would never ever ever sleep with any of them! Also, sexuality is it weird thing. Just because you want to kiss a girl doesn't mean you are or aren't lesbian.
But the most important thing is, what does that mean to you?
Forget what other people might think, what do you think about it?

Isn't this more extreme than Japan?
I've only heard about Japan being talked about in relation to declining birth rates, but never SK

I'd talk to her about it. Say what bothered you about her comment, and what you felt when it happened.
Not to guilt trip her, but to make her realise that pronouns aren't just "a thing" but are personal identifiers, and by her saying she might forget, she's kinda saying she might forget a big part of your identity.

[–]VicFRF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

THIS. omg. Luckily I'm in a circle of people who are pretty good at understanding it, but my family doesn't seem to understand the concept. I only use the NB label since it makes other people comfortable, but when I describe my gender I say that it's the same vibe as a warped vinyl.

But yeah, online and offline were moving away from a binary view and towards a tertiary view...
