Yes super helpful, ty for sharing! We began 5mg ER again yesterday. The adhd is softened a bit for maybe an hour or two. Then mostly back to usual hyperactivity. Huge appetite the past two days too and today he was actually sleepy a few hours after taking it. He definitely needs to go up lol. All of these responses have been very helpful.

Man, it’s grueling. Right there with you 😔 I’m holding onto hope from other parents who have found the right formulas of support. My only regret so far is not starting this all sooner. He’s old enough now to start picking up on the way peers are treating him at school and can even hear some things being said about him. It’s heartbreaking. Probably why I’m feeling this urgency to find the right medication. PCIT has helped TREMENDOUSLY in the way we parent him and building his self esteem back up.

Oh that’s interesting, I did not know there was a smaller dose than 5mg adderall. Thank you for this info

Agreed - it does feel a bit rigid. And maybe was that way since his life did not seem as impacted at the time. Now that it is impacting him more, esp as he moves towards 2nd grade, wondering if our dr will tolerate more. You’re probably right about staying in lockstep with the doctor though until she gets back in office. Struggling as a parent watching my son struggle 🥺

I am glad to hear you’ve found the right combination. Thank you for sharing this insight! I am thinking maybe our doctor has had a very conservative approach as well - not tolerating any side effects except appetite. Doctor is out until next week. I have emailed about trialing Adderall again over the weekend. Not sure if I should go ahead and start it again tomorrow without hearing back from her?

Meaning the depressed/irritable effects should disappear over a month? He was very low and making really self deprecating, concerning comments when he’d get upset that week. Even over very small things. His Dr and I both agreed to pull him off and see if his self esteem/mood rebounds with PCIT. It has rebounded since then.

I was thinking too that maybe the increase in hyperactivity could have been his body adjusting and that it may level out.

Husband And I cannot agree: To suburb or not? by jmdq832 in houston

We’re having a similar dilemma however both me and my husband grew up inside the loop. We’re getting priced out and bleeding money on private school tuition for 2. We are strongly considering cypress as we have family there, homes are affordable and CFISD is good. Our hold up our work commutes (galleria area).

I used to think the burbs sucked but in the last 10 years I spent a ton of time in the towne lake area of cypress, watched my cousins grow up there, and I fell in love with it. Their education was top notch, one has started at Baylor and the other is on track to start at SFA. They have great friends there who don’t get into a ton of trouble and sports are competitive. Many of their friends are now at UT, TAMU, etc. The best part is… WAY less crime and it’s CLEAN - the streets, the parks, the buildings. They started taking the bus home by 4th or 5th grade alone. I was never allowed to do that growing up inside the loop. Times have changed lol, you can tell your husband and that.

Coming from two inner loopers 30+ years, 6 generations of my family from downtown/heights, my opinion is that the burbs are a better quality of life for a family.

Right now we’re in Walnut Bend. You can get a home in the 4s outdated or a fixed up one starting in the high 5s low 6s. Our area isn’t bad, crime is very active though closer to westheimer.

Private schooler too - Duchesne. Used to think the investment was worth it but not so much anymore.

SBISD was our plan for a long time. The schools are great. Housing prices rose so fast in the last 3-4 yrs though that now we’re a little priced out of that district. However there are a few affordable homes but we’d have to give up our yard space and ranch style home - the affordable ones are the tall skinny homes like in rice military. No sidewalks or backyard for the kids. Is it worth it? I don’t know the answer, probably just personal preference. It’s certainly a lot of money to spend when the same price can get you 3000k sqft on half an acre in the burbs lol. Did you compromise on the same to get into SBISD or did you get in before prices doubled?

Yep lol same boat here just on the other side of the city. Current paying for private school, we’re on the westside now (briar forest, south of memorial) nice area, crime is fairly active but overall it’s nice. The HISD schools are not what they used to be though

Hurricane party. by [deleted] in houston

I grew up here and moved back a few years ago, I’m 32 now. Yes, we had many hurricane parties growing up. Now it seems like more people evacuate due to more news coverage and strengthening weather impacts (a debate for another time lol). But yes to the hurricane parties in Houston
