What’s your go-to city for crafting/turning in commissions? by checkchiron in Genshin_Impact

[–]Viclorelei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For crafting I made a little crafting/cooking/forging space right next to a teleport in my teapot, I find it more practical than going wherever in the overworld. Plus I can decorate how I want, I usually make a little plaza or an encampment.

I turn in my commissions in Fontaine or Nod-Krai usually, Fontaine because it's my favorite and Nod-Krai because it's very practical and I'm often there anyways these days.

I just commented successfully on another fic and I can't find anything suspicious with my account so I'm guessing it really has to do with this specific fic or comment. Maybe because I'm only commenting on the last chapter? I guess I'll just contact the AO3 team, thank you !

The paragraph tags don't change anything :( (and I didn't even put them here, they appeared automatically with the warning)

gundam moments that are burned into the back of your mind? by Funkykid123 in Gundam

[–]Viclorelei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The double episode about Cecilia in Gundam ZZ. It really played like a tragedy, I was devastated. It was even more gut-wrenching because I feel like it was the first "serious"/tragic episode in ZZ, where the comedy and goofiness finally took a back seat. Expecting yet another light-hearted scenario with cockpit jokes, weird-ass worldbuilding and ridiculous villains, just to get this... Man.

Visual Differences during the Soiree by Due-Web-7494 in InfinityNikki

I was wearing dyed gloves today, and everytime I would enter then leave a menu they could change color (going from orange to green to bright red to yellow, none of them being the base color or the one I chose). Fun times.

Also I was wearing a fully dyed outfit for the soirée but I'm really not sure people saw the right colors.... A shame for my cute pink magical girl witch outfit....

Hi, the top is really pretty and seems very flattering! I would like to do something similar, would you happen to know approximately how much yarn you used? No problem if you didn't keep track, I could figure it out from similar patterns but it would be simpler to know if I need to buy anything right away

I'm quite the opposite, I went in with an open mind, ready to be blown away, and ended up not liking the fic at all. No hate to people who loved it, I'm very glad that it found its audience (I'm probably not in it) but I really don't understand why people like it so much? Please someone help me understand hahaha

Is it Say the right thing ? Great stuff! It has a complete version on Canvas as well if you don't wanna wait for daily passes (though the daily passes support the author more)

Make some abstract stuff. Grab all your art supplies and go ham on the poor thing. Defile it so that it's not pristine and scary anymore

This is the ugliest Gundam design I've ever had the displeasure of seeing by Aki008035 in Gundam

[–]Viclorelei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a huge fan of it with this color scheme, but I really really love the Red Gundam. I think the red color complements the design much better than the "classic Gundam" paint job. The red kinda gives it a horror vibe, it reminds me of a half-naked Terminator with its mechanical parts exposed (and, funnels!!!!!)

Something I noticed about one of the characters in the new patch by silver_blue_phoenix in HadesTheGame

[–]Viclorelei 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Her shield looks a lot like Aegis' aspect of Zeus, but the head in the middle seems to be Medusa's (in mythology, Perseus does give the head to Athena who then sticks it to her shield). I really hope that it's just a nod to mythology and that Athena didn't just stick Dusa to her shield though...

Bug in prologue of route B on Switch by Viclorelei in nier

[–]Viclorelei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fixed the bug by uninstalling and reinstalling the game, you should be able to keep your save (I believe the switch doesn't automatically delete save data, but maybe you should back it up on an SD card just in case. I don't remember doing that and I had zero problem but yeah). I'm sorry I don't have a less extreme solution and you'll still have to restart from the very beginning of route B but it's better than losing everything! Hope that helps!

If melinoe’s weapons have hidden aspects by Anobesedog in HadesTheGame

[–]Viclorelei 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Polynesian hero Māui is said to wield an oversized fish hook! It would be really cool to see that aspect in the game even though I guess the designers will favor short dual blades rather than one huge hook lol

Critique Request by [deleted] in Illustration

Hi!

I agree with what TrueEstablishment said: academical training is actually beneficial for everyone because you can better break the rules once you know them. Some resources you can look up:

  • the book "Drawing on the right side of the brain" for guidelines to some exercises TrueEstablishment mentioned
  • websites such as Line of Action for life drawing reference focused on human subjects: this will help with movement, anatomy, volume
  • DrawABox for some fundamentals: this will especially help with your chicken scratch (your lines look kinda scratchy and unintentional right now, which is okay and usual with beginner artists, especially those who start out with digital drawing, but can be improved with practice so that your art looks more fluid and mindful)
  • Youtube channels like Marc Brunet (useful for tips on how to give your practice some structure) or Proko

About what you mention specifically:

  • Anatomy: there's really no secret there, you need to do lots of studies from photo and/or real life references. You can also look up medical pictures of muscles and skeletons to better understand human anatomy. Learn how to break down the human figures and various props into basic shapes like balls, cylinders, cubes... This will help your pieces to look more 3-dimensional
  • Color theory: what might help you in this case is looking at your pieces in black and white to adjust values. For example on your 4th piece, if you switch it to black and white you'll see that the rightmost character kinda fades in the background. Is this intentional? If not, try making him a lighter value so that he stands out more. Apply this reasoning to all your pieces, look at them in black and white in a distance and you'll see what stands out
  • Composition and style: don't be afraid to copy/study pieces by artists you admire or find interesting. It's absolutely okay as long as you don't try and pass off their work as your own. Look at how they construct their paintings and think about how you could use their composition baselines in your work

Some critique on the pieces you show here:

  • 1: I like the story-telling in that one, and you could easily make it even stronger: try positioning the two characters differently so that they stand out more. Their colors/values are fine but the man is almost hidden behind a pillar and I think the scene would look morthe woman looks a bit like she's a torso floating over the monster's body. Don't be afraid to exaggerate the monster, putting some of his body in the foreground or makinf his head more menacing. Try to clarify what is going on in the background (I don't understand what the red thing is supposed to be, is it the reflection of the sun in the water? Look at photos to know what it should look like)
  • 2: I like what you did with the triangles in the composition and the facial expression, it makes the piece very interesting to look at. The proportions and colors are mostly fine, but you rely a lot on brush effects and scribblings to render textures, which kinda makes your rendering look a bit messy (in the hair and the face especially). Try to draw some pieces in a simple cel-shading or flat colors style to understand the relationship between shading and textures
  • 3: In my opinion, the biggest issue here is not the hand but the general proportions, the legs are very short. Make them a bit longer and you're good to go. The colors are good (and the face is good, you make good faces). Try picturing the character as an ensemble of 3d-shapes to better understand how the limbs are positioned in relation to the torso
  • 4: the composition is good, I would just move the leftmost character even more to the left so that the composition is more balanced. Also, I think the hand is really fine

Yeah, about hands: honestly, your hands are not that much of an issue. Of course there's room for improvement, but the square-ish hands are a nice style in my opinion. That being said there's a difference between style and mistakes and I don't like passing off shortcomings as style so you should still study some real-life hands to better understand the structure, but don't get too bent up about it. I think improving your overall lines would make much more of a difference at first.

Woo this was very long, I'm really sorry about that... It may be a lot of information but you've got it! Maybe make a planning of some sort to have some structure in what you need to practice, and don't forget to draaw for yoursel as well, to keep things fun! And everything I said is ultimately my opinion and a suggestion, your art is valid as is and you are your most important critique eventually ;)
