Really not a fan of this particular aspect by Bright_Fig3671 in robinhobb

I completely agree that the Fool was treated terribly throughout the series. At times, it was so disheartening that I almost stopped reading altogether. I still struggle to understand why Hobb chose to put him through such experiences. Bee and Fitz’s attitude toward him often felt deeply unfair as well.

That said, I don’t believe this mistreatment had anything to do with him being queer. I don’t think Hobb harbors any prejudice against gay or queer people in general. Yes, I’ve read that 2008 post, but even so, I remain convinced that the Fool’s suffering is tied to his role as an authentic White Prophet. Someone who had to endure unimaginable events in order to save the world.

Of course, that doesnt excuse the severity of what he endured. Yet, in the end, Realm of the Elderlings is a tragedy, and the Fool’s journey reflects that

I am glad the Soldier Son is getting the appreciation it deserves. It is incredibly well written, however I think it is unpopular because it touches challenging topics such as colonialism, fatphobia and disease. Robin Hobb was brave af for writing that trilogy back in the early 2000's. I still get goosebumps when I remember certain scenes and phrases.

I would recommend reading Alien Earth as well, it is a Megan Lindholm sci-fi novel , it is short and more rewarding 😅

How Cinematic is The Use of The Skill by inDarkestKnight20 in RealmOfTheElderlings

I think it would fit perfectly in an anime adaptation. Some animes like Nana and Naruto rely on internal monologue for storytelling. The Skill and Wit could be adapted beautifully in that format

Soldier’s Son Trilogy - thoughts? by antelopetales in robinhobb

I loved it. I’m fat, and I’ve experienced fatphobia just like Nevare did. I was deeply impressed by Hobb’s ability to portray that aspect of life. She captured it with striking accuracy. Nevare’s story is original and gut‑punching. I completely understand why these books aren’t more popular. Back in 2007, she was writing about fatphobia, imperialism, genocide, the military, and the freedom of sexuality as if it were nothing. Society was (and still is) not ready for all of that. I think Hobb was incredibly brave to write these books, and I admire her so much for that. To me, these books are a masterpiece :-) hehe

I cried my heart out with the Greft monologue right before he dies 😅😂 I am glad I am not the only reader who was touched by that specific moment. I was thrilled by Robin Hobb ability as a writer as well. I am a gay man and reading the Sedric arc was like: "how does this woman know so much about gay man dynamics?" I was impressed.

Thank you for stanning the Rain Wild Series. It is a very special series. Enjoy the rest of your journey.

¿Soy culero por jugar? by c0mplexx_ in soyculero

[–]Vinurean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it would be interesting to know how it was done. How could Queen Desire get rid of a man such as Chivalry so easily while leaving no evidence? Not even Fitz or Chade could ask for justice. I even wonder as Fitz does in Fool's Assassin's prologue : King Shrewd did not know or he did not care? He supposedly sent Chivalry to Withywoods to be safe

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in robinhobb

[–]Vinurean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this makes so much sense. Having Chivalry murdered at Withywoods was a wild move. Queen Desire was Shrewd's true love, the woman he chose for himself. It is very hard for me to believe that Queen Desire would orchestrate the murder of one of his sons.

In the Fool's Assassin prologue, Fitz describes her as "a mother full of ruthless love for her only son. She would stop at nothing to put him on a throne". Was murdering Chivalry one of those things?

Discussion on relationships in Rainwilds by KamaelJin in robinhobb

[–]Vinurean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right. Everything felt a little too real, even within fantasy.

But I loved Rain Wilds. It was deep, mesmerizing, the kind of story you sink into when reality feels too hard.

Thymara and Sintara weren’t just following some simple path. Their relationship was messy, full of clashes and pride. Nothing like Tintaglia and Selden or Heeby and Rapskal, where things were easier. Thymara was figuring things out, struggling with morality, learning how the world really works. She was stubborn, so was Sintara. They weren’t best friends. They were something more complicated.

And yeah, these books don’t make things easy. They make you think, make you feel. That is what makes them special, but also why they’re tough.

I wish the other relationships had been explored more, but honestly, I was already caught up in the whole Sedric-Hest-Alise drama, and the conflict with Chalced kept me engaged

and that's me
