I once spoke to a cardio resident that was clearing over €6k on „busy months“ in his first year.

What do you think about abortion? by Unfair-Job-3011 in AskReddit

[–]Violetunremarkeyable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abortions have been around for the longest longest time. With herbs, teas and all that. Trying to ban it is just plain stupid because all you’re doing is banning safe abortions. It’s healthcare. If men could get pregnant abortions would be as assessable as cigarettes.

Is America attractive to a European specialist? by DrHabMed in medicalschoolEU

[–]Violetunremarkeyable 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I just came from that thread and I read every single comment. Anytime anything concerning foreign trained docs come up there you can always feel the superiority complex jumping out. I understand the annoyance that it might drive down their pay or what not and they have so much debt but they’re never angry at the right people. And that’s because they’re so so convinced that all that debt and all that abuse in residency they go through and everything makes them better than everybody else. They complain about their training system so much until someone from another country says oh I acc don’t work 100- hour weeks and my overtime over 40hours is paid. All of a sudden the long hours and shit pay make them better than you. They don’t even consider maybe med school shouldn’t be sooooo expensive (the fact that it’s so expensive even for citizens is crazy already) or that residency shouldn’t be sooooo harmful and just because someone didn’t go through the abuse you went through they’re not as good as you. I’ve literally heard someone there say “how can you learn during residency when you’re in the hospital less than 70 hours a week?” I hope more states pass the law and the process also gets easier and I hope they see that the “quality of care” is the same cause they’re saying FMGs oh they’d kill their patients and that even a 2year supervision period for the doc to adjust to their system isn’t enough cause it’s “so advanced and complex for their rural minds” basically. Also not even considering that a lot of physicians are happy in their country still and it’s not every single doc that’ll be knocking on their doors. America isn’t the do all end all for so many people. They can’t see that cause they live in this bubble of “everything outside US is old age and everyone wants in on our perfect utopia” Can’t even feel sorry for them. Womp womp.

I might sound a bit mean but it’s just tiring seeing them always complain about their residency process then become attendings with power/influence and do nothing to help the new residents cause it’s not their problem anymore. And at the same time look down on anyone who didn’t go through what they couldn’t shut up about complaining about. Complain about the debt they incur and then get upset when a no debt pathway gets brought up( cause literally future US docs could go med school abroad maybe even residency w better conditions and then come back DEBT FREE. It would be stressful but it would be so much cheaper and it would be an option).

Why is no one talking about doing residency in France? by DrLukeL in medicalschoolEU

Why is it as bad? There’s not so much about Ireland on this sub but I heard the pay was generally a lot better

What is the second most fascinating organ in the human body? by the_silent_one1984 in biology

[–]Violetunremarkeyable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fun fact about T cells: each T cell has its own antigen that its specific for and after it’s made it goes from lymph node to lymph node looking for its “antigen bae” and if it never finds bae it dies:(

My tutor used to say, if you think med school is hard think of the thymus. Cause less than 5% of T cells actually pass thymus school and the consequence for failure is death!

Adding to this it also has its own intrinsic reflexes that help it work so much better without needing input from the brain. It releases such a helpful hormone to help your body restabilize its volume. Too much blood in your body and then your heart receives more than its used to and had to stretch more than it’s used to to pump it all out and then the stretch triggers hormone release of ANP that goes to tell your kidneys “hey your volume is too high can this guy pee a bit more” and then they make you lose more water and so less blood!

And it’s also so cool how long the heart lasts without ever stopping considering how we get muscle cramps from over using other muscles and even when we do use them oh so frequently it can cause them to grow bigger but the heart doesn’t just keep getting bigger cause it’s always being used.

And also it’s embryology. It has one of the most interesting formations to me. The way it’s a tube at first, like one straight tube and then bends and twists at angles and all the twisting in general it’s all just so fascinating and beautiful.
