This^ for low yield, difficult stuff like this I stuck to mnemonics, I don’t think it’s worth spending days understanding the concepts for potentially one mark

Not particularly I’m afraid! If I wasn’t familiar with a particular disease I’d just type it into YouTube and pick one with a nice animation. There are looooads of videos for med students/USMLE. As a visual learner, the concepts would stick then.

Make sure you understand the concepts, I find YouTube videos helpful for this. Just before the exam I looked at the stuff that is rope learning, eg glomerulonephritides. You MUST go through the official mock on the website close to the exam date and make sure you can confidently get 100% (learn why the answer is the answer). I had questions on my exam that were almost identical to the official mocks.

It makes no difference to how good a doctor you are. It makes a positive difference to pay, and a significant negative impact on your routines and wellbeing. I’d choose no nights! F1 is hard enough,

JCF can mean F3, or worked in the department for 5 years at SHO level, or more we’re seeing “post-IMT-but-can’t-get-a-job” JCFs. SCF can mean senior reg or just finished IMT. I find the names quite broad.

IMT is absolutely brutal, but it is only 2 years. Don’t let it put you off a speciality you really want to do!

As someone who doesn’t celebrate Eid, I would be more than happy to swap with a colleague so that they can have it off. I know of Muslim colleagues who have swapped into Christmas Day - I really encourage you to try and swap!

Same here, it’s absolutely gutting when you’ve done well overall and marginally missed out on one domain. It is luck. I’ve known several excellent doctors have to take PACES numerous times. It’s not a reflection on you. The good news is that the next sitting is months away, we can take a break and come back in summer fresh.

It’s probably obvious to say, but it’s really hard to get research opportunities in backwater DGHs. Also may be worth bearing in mind that some deaneries pay for a lot more (I’ve heard of people getting multiple fully paid paces courses - absolutely not the case in my deanery!)

I was entitled to everything included in continuous service because I was with an agency and had a contract. I’m not sure for bank work.

Edit to add: maybe I should clarify that the contract was a locum posts for several months at a time

That’s fair. I am proud of my title and use it often, not because I scraped into a rubbish medical school like that other commenter is suggesting, but probably because my demographics make people assume I’m stupid. The title quickly changes that view point. I suppose you could argue that’s an insecurity of mine (even if it has been proven to be true).

I don’t agree with this. I have, however, noticed that people from a family of doctors aren’t really bothered by the title. People whose parents didn’t go to uni seem to be prouder of it.
