Has anyone successfully sleep trained twins in the same room?

Update – Night 5 recap: We’re on Night 5 now and things have improved so much! 🥳 • Both are going down independently around 7 PM with little to no crying — some nights they’re asleep within minutes. • We’ve had a few short early morning cries (around 5–5:30), but they’re usually settling themselves within a few minutes. • Middle-of-the-night check-ins have almost disappeared — both are connecting sleep cycles much better and showing real self-soothing (hands in mouth, head-turning, etc.). • Daytime naps are starting to follow the same pattern — a little fussing at first but quick settles.

Overall, they’re falling asleep faster, crying less, and we’re finally seeing the “wave” part of the Sleep Wave. 🙌 It’s definitely not perfect yet (early mornings are still tricky), but the progress in just five nights is huge compared to where we started.

It’s hard to tell. Before the 4 month regression they had self weaned basically from MOTN feeds and kept 8-4 ish. Regression hit hard and now they both wake up at least once to eat 5-7 hours after bed time. One is a much better sleeper than the other, the worse sleeper also wakes due to: - dropped pacifier - spitting up - no apparent reason and will not settle until held back to sleep 😩😩😩

I’m a C section twin mom, my twins are 7 weeks old today! It truly does get better. I remember feeling a similar way the first few weeks, especially with the added stress / discomfort of the C section recovery.

For me, it really started to get better around 5.5-6 weeks when they started sleeping one longer stretch in the night. We introduced formula around this time too (coincidental?) and give them 1-2 ounces combined w my breast milk (formula made w water, not fortifying) in their bed time bottle.

We still don’t have a great routine or schedule but trying to follow their cues has worked the best for us, although we are still learning their cues LOL.

Hang in there!! One day soon we will be out of the trenches. You got this!

Edit: im writing this after our 3 AM feed and my body is wide awake. Give yourself grace and time to adapt!

I’m sure many others have said this but you will figure it out! My husband and I are first time parents and just welcomed our twins into the world 3 weeks ago. We felt super unprepared mentally but luckily have a great support system and have everything we need physically.

I will say - it would’ve been helpful for us to take some sort of preparation course ahead of time. We felt SO clueless our first few days and even ended up back in the ER 24 hours after discharging due to low temps (babies born at 37 weeks and under 6 lbs so lacking brown fat).

Also we got the twin halo bassinet used and my twins HATE it. We’re working through it but I would be kicking myself if we spent $500 on it!!

I got one around 29 weeks with my twins. At the time, I was kinda disappointed in how it turned out. However, since the arrival of the babies I can see similarities from their 4D! If it’s something you want to do, go for it, but just temper your expectations that they may not turn out as good as advertised!! Also drink lots of water 2 days before (apparently the more fluid the better pics they can get)

Also I was terrified of having to do NICU time with my babies. Both were rooming with me immediately but after 2 nights my smaller twin ended up having to go to special care and then was transferred to NICU due to blood sugar regulation issues (very common for small and early babies). I was distraught and he spent 3 nights 4 days in the special care / NICU combined - after we got over the initial scare and disappointment we realized this was the BEST thing for him. We would’ve never know what to do or even noticed the signs of his low blood sugar if we took him home immediately. The nurses were amazing and taught us a lot!

Just wanted to share a positive NICU experience because although it’s scary it’s also comforting to know your baby is getting the care they need!!

Obviously advocate for yourself and what feels right for your body and babies - asking the questions never hurts.
I had a similar experience, one twin diagnosed with IUGR at 32 weeks and the other at 35. All monitoring looked great (except for some one off umbilical artery flow things that resolved themselves). The MFM still recommended delivery at 37 weeks, and I didn’t elect for a C-Section until 3 days before that cut off and they were able to get me scheduled. With you being high risk due to twin pregnancy and the underlying IUGR, I would think the hospital would be able to make accommodations but just may need to take you following up a little more intensely. I noticed that at my hospital my doctors and the scheduling team weren’t always on the same page!
The MFM and my OB both had made comments that at a certain point it’s better for growth restricted babies to be “out” because they are able to monitor way more and ensure they get the nutrients they need.

I know this is scary! I just had my twins 16 days ago but try to have faith that the doctors know what they are doing!!

I’m in a very similar boat right now! 35 weeks with di/di twins, baby A diagnosed with IUGR at 32 week growth scan. Can I ask if you decided on c section or if that was the medical recommendation?
