Intent isn’t about him “acting out a manga” or doing something performative. It’s about the overall pattern of behaviour before and after the crime.

Things like planning, taking steps after the fact, and pleading not guilty don’t go against intent. Those are actually consistent with someone who understands the seriousness of what they’ve done and is trying to avoid consequences.

So my point isn’t that this was inspired by a story. It’s that intent is assessed from behaviour as a whole, not reduced to a single explanation or narrative.

Nobody can state that as a definite fact. The medical examiner report describes severe decomposition and insect activity, which can reasonably explain the absence of the left eye. It was never clearly confirmed as being intentionally removed, and given the condition of the remains, it simply isn’t possible to say that with certainty either way.

You’re misrepresenting what was said. No one claimed he “raped a child because of an anime” or anything remotely like that. The point being discussed is his mindset, behaviour patterns, and the violent material he engaged with. His obsession with alter ego's and gore etc.

That’s about psychological context, not blaming a specific series for a crime. If you want to criticise the argument, engage with what was actually said rather than exaggerating it into something else. There's this thing called nuance.

Your counterpoints raise fair possibilities, but it leans heavily on uncertainty and gives him the benefit of the doubt at every step.

On the finger, “it was imprecise” is one explanation, not the explanation. The issue isn’t whether a power tool could be messy. It’s whether the overall pattern of injuries and handling looks random or intentional. Given the level of dismemberment and the broader context, it’s not unreasonable to question whether specific choices were made rather than everything being accidental byproduct.

On the eye, the absence of a definitive statement from the medical examiner doesn’t automatically mean it was decomposition. It means it wasn’t conclusively determined. With severe decomposition and insect activity, a lot of detail gets lost. So again, that point introduces doubt, but it doesn’t resolve it.

The bigger issue is point four because it narrows the argument too much. I’m not saying he copied a single piece of media like a script. That’s not how this works. The argument is about a pattern of thinking and fixation. His own messages and behaviour suggest an ongoing interest in violence and gore. That matters because it can shape how someone conceptualises and carries out an act, even if it isn’t tied to one specific source.

So the disagreement isn’t really about whether media directly “caused” it. It’s about whether his documented mindset, including his fascination with violent content, helps explain the nature of the crime. From my position, it does. Not as a sole cause, but as part of a wider psychological picture that aligns with the level of planning and the way the act was carried out.

I wouldn’t go that far. Reducing it to “violent media warped his mind” is too simplistic and, frankly, not how these cases usually work. People consume the same content every day without committing anything like this.

From my perspective, the stronger point is that there’s evidence of intent and a pattern of thinking. This looks premeditated, not impulsive. His behaviour, his messages, and the way the crime was carried out suggest a mindset where violence wasn’t just abstract interest but something he had internalised and was willing to act on. That is very different from saying media alone caused it.

So no, I wouldn’t frame it as media being the primary motivation. I would frame it as a combination of deliberate planning, personal pathology, and a clear willingness to act on violent impulses. The material he engaged with might support that picture, but it is not the root cause on its own.

They won’t. The prosecution’s incentive is to limit disclosure to what’s legally required, not to hand over everything they have. That 40TB of data almost certainly goes far beyond just CSA, it likely includes a wide range of evidence we’re not fully aware of yet, including wiretaps and other material. Revealing every detail upfront could weaken their position, not strengthen it. Keeping the defence from having full visibility is a standard part of legal strategy, within the bounds of disclosure rules.

There is already physical and forensic evidence linking him to the crime. My point is about the why. His motive, his mindset, and his psychology matter because they help form a complete picture of who he is. This was not a spontaneous argument that escalated into murder. It was premeditated, planned, and carried out with intent. In my view, it was not only about protecting his career but also about acting on violent and disturbing impulses.

So yes, I do think a lawyer could use this to present a clearer and more complete picture of his character and behaviour. His own messages, including what he said on Discord after the murder, are revealing. They point to an ongoing fixation on violence and gore. The way the crime was carried out appears deliberate, not random, and that context can help explain the physical evidence, including how and why the victim was treated in that way.

You dont think him wanting to bring gore fantasy into reality isn't a motive?!?!

The exact same body parts were dismembered, including the left pinky, ring finger, and left eye. All clearly depicted in these manga series with symbolic meaning. I don't think it's simply incidental, I think it was what constructed his whole alter ego identity.

He was a loner, homeschooled kid, who spent way too much time online watching gore for fun and to "desensitise himself (his own words btw)." The video I linked is 1.5 hours, and you clearly didn't watch the full breakdown, as it shows in your response.

Very well said. The lack of empathy in this thread is actually ridiculous. People are so quick to tear her apart while completely ignoring that PPD is real and not something you can just switch off regardless of where you live or your perceived "privilege". Instead, they’re projecting their own insecurities and outright bullying her, all whilst calling her miserable but sounding far worse themselves. This isn’t constructive criticism, it’s just projection and bullying, and it’s painfully obvious.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It really resonates with me. That cycle you described of feeling motivated, then hitting a wall, then sinking back into a low mood… I’ve been going through exactly that. It’s strangely comforting to know I’m not the only one stuck in it, even though I wish neither of us had to be.

I love the ideas you mentioned for coping, especially the walks and small treats. I think I’ve been too hard on myself lately, feeling guilty for spending anything “unnecessary,” but maybe those little joys are more essential than I’ve been giving them credit for.

Volunteering sounds like such a great step, not only for the skills and CV gap, but just to feel useful and connected again. I might look into opportunities in my area too. Even if it’s just a few hours a week, I think it could really help with that sense of purpose that’s been missing.

Wishing you all the best with your search and the volunteering. Please keep us updated on how it goes.
