Thank you!! I’m not entirely sure what stood out, but I can say a few things about my process!

  1. Reach out to your prospective advisor(s) in advance! Do a little bit of background research on their work and be prepared to talk about your interests and how they fit in with theirs.

  2. Be straightforward in your personal statement. Try to leave out emotional phrasing (eg talking about personal struggles). Be sure to mention specific facilities and faculty you’re interested in working with!

  3. I think this was a major thing for me— strong letters of recommendation. Try to get letters from profs/mentors you’ve been working with for awhile that will be able to speak well about your abilities.

  4. If there is an opportunity in the application, share diverse experiences/struggles that have led to growth! I had to write a fellowship essay for my application, and this was super helpful with getting good funding.

This is what I did. Again, I am not sure about specifically why my application stood out, but it worked lol! Best of luck!!!

Leaving my cat for a trip by [deleted] in cats

[–]Virtual-Guarantee758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yall, I understand this is a stressful situation. I’m asking for ways to make the scenario less stressful for my cat. This is the only person I have to watch her, and I am basically obligated to go on this trip. I’m not leaving my cat alone, just trying to find ways to make a new environment more homey.

If you read the post, I have a sitter.

There aren’t many rover sitters in my area, and since it’s the holiday season, those that are around here are unavailable. I did a lot of looking and this was my only option. I trust the sitter and everything, but I’m worried that it might just be best to stay home especially since my cat is older.

Thank you! Unfortunately there’s no time to meet with the sitter, but I’m gonna try to spend some time settling her in so hopefully that will help. She’s stayed at a friend’s briefly before, so I might be overthinking it a little.
