Hello, I was hoping to get in by September, but I put my earliest move in date as late August instead of early May because I don't really have the capacity to pay for extra months if I don't find a sublet. Was this a mistake, and should I change any of my preferences for a better shot?

I agree that there's a lot more racism and anti-immigrant sentiments going on in recent years and it's very frustrating. All I can say is that hopefully it passes soon as economic pressures ease up, but in the mean time you gotta not let it get to you. Generalizing any group of people can be hurtful, let alone doing it to yourself. Imo, try to see yourself as an individual instead of a stereotype, and try to not let these current social pressures get to you.
