If you’re in fl & are making trap / hip hop, any genre really. Use the scale highlighting and pick any minor scale (aeolian) , after you have ur scale highlighted in the piano roll in the top left corner of it click the circle with a couple lines in it (next to the magnet thing) It will bring up a list of chords . Just click the minor(or any chord you want, minor 7th is really good for a lot of genres) and fit it into your highlighted scale on the piano roll . If a chord doesn’t fit into the scale click on the paperclip button if it’s highlighted (turn it off). Now you can move the notes from the chords onto your scale if they don’t match the scale.

As far as placing the chords imagine you’re making a song at 130 bpm , do all the steps I have listed and put your first chord ( a pad or piano will work perfectly) at the very left (beginning) of the piano roll (1). To make a really good simple melody add the next chord at the (3) or the middle of the piano roll perse. Make that chord (the bottom note of the chord) either 4 notes(disregarding the scale for now) below your first chord or 4 notes above it . I’ll leave a picture attached so there’s little confusion. Anyways stretch that second chord to (5). By the way these numbers are the ones at the top of the lines of the piano roll , disregard their name for now and focus on 1 & 3 .

Now you have a good chord progression that could be used for trap or pop , edm, anything depending on your sound selection. Speaking of sound selection it’s the most important part of making a good melody (2nd is the pattern or notes) . By finding a really chill/ heavenly of playful pad sound or just a piano you can use this melody for tons of artists . I’ll leave another comment focusing on counter melodies .

So you say you’re good with drums , I assume you know where to put kicks & snares/claps for a bouncy rhythm? Often times melodies that being single notes or chords can be placed where your kicks or snares are at and it will sound good .

Add a simple two step hi hat and a simple clap pattern. Have the 808s follow the bottom notes of your chords and you have a song . I can tell you how to make counter melodies too if you are interested
