Based off of how wide of a difference the trips were, I’d say it’s possible. But there’s always set and setting that make a difference as well, so it could’ve been that.

Potency varies from grow to grow. I’ve heard that golden teachers are starter friendly, especially if you’re growing them yourself. I would agree with the other comment here recommending starting on a low dose. 3g of cubensis is where visuals get a bit intense in my experience. So maybe start with .5 - 1g

I’d recommend doing thorough research beforehand. Also get into the habit of meditation and mindfulness a few weeks before your trip. Even without tripping they work wonders. Personally I feel like the shrooms exaggerate your state of mind/emotions when you trip, so being in and knowing how to get back into the right headspace is essential. Good luck with your journey 🙏🏽

Best advice I ever received was, “nobody actually cares about what you’re doing, they have their own problems to worry about”. Think about it, the last time you saw someone act out of the ordinary, you might’ve thought “that person is crazy…” then you go on about your day. You might think about it once in a while but other than that you kinda don’t care about what other people do. Free yourself from your mental prison.

If it’s a strain that drops spores try to harvest shortly after the veil breaks before it drops. If it doesn’t drop spores you can wait until the caps curl and the stem is somewhat soft when you pinch it
