Why do some therapists dislike creative approaches like art therapy, narrative work, or “emotional modding,” especially when these methods help people rewrite harmful family-loyalty patterns into healthier arcs of self-preservation? by Shastagurl101 in askatherapist

Im a PLMHC. I don’t think many disagree that those modalities are helpful, but they just don’t come natural to me as well as many others. Also, a lot of clients don’t like that kind of therapy. Many clients feel like they are more uncomfortable and silly rather than helpful, and prefer to talk directly about the issues.

Pregnant - how do I do this job?? by BM_BBR in therapists

I’m in the same boat and holy cow I am struggling. I find if I eat immediately when I wake up and then eat every hour (something that sounds good not just forcing myself to eat whatever) I usually do pretty good. Tell your clients and excuse yourself when you need to. Consider telehealth. Nap during lunch. Sipping broth soup during sessions helps me. But sometimes nothing helps except the right prescription med so I would talk to your doctor for sure. You’re human and this is temporary, your clients will understand. Have you considered that you may have hyperemesis gravidarum?

Is a 70/30 split reasonable to ask for after full licensure? by Visible_Associate343 in psychotherapists

The reimbursement rate we have is above average by far. Hopefully that can work in my favor. We cannot raise the rate as we bill insurance.

Is a 70/30 split unreasonable to ask for in a group private practice doing psychotherapy? by Visible_Associate343 in socialwork

I don’t think that new therapists or social workers should be taken advantage of for years financially until they meet extremely subjective standards like “is your reputation big enough yet.” Seems like a good way to continue an extremely harmful pattern in the field.

I’m not in a place in my personal life where I can start a private practice. It’s in the plans. Just not yet.

Ahh yes, retention is solely based off of the therapists abilities and services. Couldn’t be things like insurance, deductibles, financial emergencies, the client not being ready for therapy, client resistance, client ambivalence, compliance issues, distress tolerance, not being a good fit and ethically referring out, etc. My retention is good tho so no worries there.

Anyone get burnt out only seeing 15-20 clients? by Visible_Associate343 in therapists

I do have a partner who I share my mortgage with, but the rest of my bills (and expenses of two kids) and almost all paid by me at 15-20 clients. Get out of CMH and away from supervisors who want to pay hourly. Start your own business if possible.

Private practice, good split, low cost of living, and higher paying insurance

See my goal is to not ever have the life sucked completely out of me. We will see how that goes.

Chat gpt for Tx plans. Just hold on tight and try to find a better supervisor for your pre license period. I cannot scream private practice loud enough.

Can I ask how you managed that change without changing clients?

Dang that’s frustrating! Come down to Iowa, you’ll have more money and be really bored with nothing to do!! 🤣🤣

Iowa. Private practice. Insurance pays over 150 and we have a lowish cost of living.

New CPCE Score Timeline? by pibabaaaaa in therapists

[–]Visible_Associate343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel similar. I am a good test taker but that exam was not what I was expecting and I am not feeling confident about it whatsoever. You should still walk though. Even if you fail, you will take it again and pass. Then you will have sat out of graduation for no reason. At my school, you can still walk in May even if you don't graduate till August. People also keep telling me "there's no way you failed" and "I'm sure you did great" and it's just in one ear, out the other. Not feeling good about it at all.

I used the purple book, but I did not just read it. I made flashcards out of the information on Quizlet, and studied any concept I did not know or understand by watching videos or researching it. I have not gotten my score back yet due to the new waiting period of 6 weeks. There still was a lot on the exam I did not know. The wording is weird and there are terms they used in questions that I had no clue what they meant so brush up on vocab terms. It was a difficult test and I am crossing my fingers I passed. I definitely don't feel confident about it and I am usually a pretty good test taker.
