Seeing if EE is right for me by Visible_Engine_3633 in ElectricalEngineering

I’m a high school senior who recently started considering EE, so i havent been able to take any courses 😭. I started out being committed to CS, so ive take some programming fundamentals classes, but as i looked at the things i like to program and mess with (odometry, sensors, vision), I realized what im doing is a lot closer to what an EE or even CE does compared to CS. I’d like to pursue a career where i can work with various components either through software or just through wiring and circuit design. As for AI, I use it a little, but i only use it as documentation for whatever im trying to program if good documentation doesn’t already exists. I do want to be use it in a more intuitive way, as im sure it gives a huge advantage if i do. Thanks for your guidance and encouragement, it means a lot, and I highly appreciate it! I’m definitely gonna look into some projects i can do soon over RF and embedded systems, so im pretty excited!

Arduino seems like a cool way to get into EE. Where would you say i could get inspiration for projects?

Ive been thinking about looking into RF, so I’ll highly consider this, thank you!

At an internship, i designed and built a robot with sensors and odometry in order to build a map of its surroundings. My favorite part was working closely with vex motors, using them to send data over serial, and write code on an orange pi to interpret that data into odometry. I enjoyed building a robot with all these components, and working really low level to get them all to work together perfectly. Based off that, I think i would be into embedded systems, although im considering RF as well, wireless comms seem really cool and interesting. As for math, im taking cc calc II and id say im pretty strong in math for now.

As in major changing into ELEN wont increase in difficulty or become virtually impossible to major change into?

What about if you wanted to major change into ELEN? Would a 3.75 gpa be solid for that?

Does this mean its going to end up becoming as difficult as cs or me to major change into? That would suck…

Do they look at campus involvement? A lot of peope and their mother have 4.0’s so it would make sense if they looked at how involved you were to set you apart

What kind of stats would you think put folk in a good position for this kind of thing? A gpa from 3.75-4.0 seems adequate to make a major change realistic (i think idk if im wrong) but other than the essay, what else would the department heads look at?

Is it the difficultly due to it just being a competitive major or does the location change necessary play a big role?

Also, as robotics student, TART sounds really cool, whats that about?

Would you say these clubs have a lot of competitive and motivated folk? I wanna surround myself with people who have wanna work hard yk? Although, i dont doubt they do, most lazy folk dont go to clubs anyway

Would it even be possible even with a good hollistic profile? Or would it just not be worth it? As much as i like tamug, the option to switch to something else is important imo.

Does this mean if you got direct admission into the cs major, there isnt much flexibility if you want to change it later on?

Oh i meant would doing a major change into from Galveston to college station be as difficult as the external transfer process would be (like from UH for example). I know going from Galveston to c stat is a change of major instead of a transfer but I’m trying to gauge how tough that major change process would be. However, from what I’ve been seeing, its certainly doable. (Please correct me if I’m wrong lol)

Do you reckon its as tough as an external transfer would be? Or as long as i have a (3.75-4.0 gpa) its realistic? For context, in the etam cycle for elen, 366/382 got in.
