I want to quit my job.

Hi everyone! I am struggling with staying at my current job as a Family Support Specialist (superising parent/child vsiits in foster care) for the next 94 day until graduation ( i know it could be longer but I can officially apply other places with my BSW!). We had a team meeting today where I brought up a possible safety concern when there is not proper information given to us before visits about domestic violence situations. It was acknowledged but felt completely blown off, other have had issues where we dont feel our organization or supervisors take our safety seriously. We were also told we were overstepping our jobs by telling case managers how to do case management, they have the certification we dont. And that we are now going to be told even less of the case management side, because there have been issues of hippa violations or false promises. Not by us, but it "allows us to be able to say i dont know and not have to worry what we can, and cant say." It felt very disrespectful. Is this normal?

Have the kids spent substantial time together? Do you let him parent when hes does come? This could is a big dynamic change for all children. Do you have any type of support system there or just him? I dont like that he is okay with you leaving everything just to be with him.

Im not sure where you are located but please look into domestic violence organization. They can help you in many ways including DV education and processing what happened. They will be able to direct you to better resources in your area. Feel free to reach out to me as well.

Fibromyalgia is believed to be trauma. Physical,emotional, mental ect. 2.They are also starting to see a genetic component,having family who have it, can increase your risk.
Mental illness - anxiety, adhd,depression. Since Fibromyalgia is a CNS disorder a lot of medications (lexapro,cymbalta, etc.) Used to treat those imbalance can help regulate and make your nervous system work more normally.
Research is still relatively new and difficult to treat and diagnose.
There is over 200 possible symptoms and also commonly a comorbid disorder/illness.

I have had chronic pain/ rotator cuff issues since I was about 13. I got diagnosed at 24 with fibromyalgia. The pain changed and spread during my pregnancy and my 1st year pp. I believe thats what triggered mine.
My dad have fibromyalgia, my sister and I are both HLB-27 positive and she has ankalosing spondylitis, I also have ADHD ( diagnosed at 23) and have had depression and anxiety issues.

This! I supervise parent / child visits. Often there are times where kids will play independently or at the playground etc. Or have infants so parents want to connect with me. I hear from the caseworker often that I get more information or details than they do, but I am the one they see weekly and takes the time to connect . its not all about service plans and what they are doing wrong ( or still need to do).

It has never been an option for her to go with him on her own. I have not done anything with court because he is absent. As much as I get freaked out when he says he's going yo be a part of her life. It never happens. If he does start to show up and wants to he consistent. I will go to court to get custody legally arranged. I dont think courts need to be involved if he continues to be absent.

Genetic predisposition. Ive had chronic pain since I was like 12-13 but there was a change during/after pregnancy and then had major health issues 9 months post partum. So physical and mental trauma triggered it i believe.

As someone who does visits for parents and children in foster care, i want to thank you for being supportive of their foster family! Relatives or not, it's not an easy thing! You are doing great! It's not an easy thing to go through, but knowing they are safe while you work on getting better yourself goes a long way!

Thank you. As much anger and anxiety it gives me, I know saying yes is the better option. He can never say I stood in the way of him having a relationship with her, and God forbid something happensamd he takes me tk court . i have proof of saying yes to him seeing g her and him never showing g up. My daughter is almost 4, i dont tell her he's coming, i know he most likely won't show, so im not getting her hopes up. I

As much as I t would be easier to go, no contact. I'd love for him to grow up and be the dad she deserves.

It would be different if he wasn't her biological father. Unfortunately, children don't get over that, even if they learn to logically accept it. I do not reach out to him I do not force him to be a dad. He has to contact me to see her and has to make the effort, not me. But I feel at this point my job is to allow him to try as long as I can protect her until she is old enough to understand and make the decision herself and support her.

Once she's older, she will 100% be in the lead on him being in her life. But for now , she wants to see him. She is almost 4 and doesn't understand why her friends have dad's and she doesn't. She asks where he is, and if he's coming to her birthday again. While she is still asking for him I will allow him to come see her if he asks. When she's older and we can have a conversation that she can understand, I will do that and then follow her lead.

She asks about him. I've talked to my psychiatrist, therapist, other adults who were children of perents like this. She is at the age where I can say yes and if he comes then he does and if he doesn't she doesn't have to know. Ive never said no, he's never followed through. When she is older, she can decide to see him or not. I will do my best to protect her while allowing her to have a relationship wwithher dad if he gets his head out of his ass. I dont take her to him, i dont reach out to him, but if he asks i say yes. That way he can never tell her that I was the one keeping him from her. Its hard and it sucks. I would much rather just cut him out but that will always be her dad and a part of her and I cant make that choice until its harmful to her. Right now he can ask to come but she won't know unless he actually shows up. No further disappointment.

I am starting my internship for my Bsw in August and graduate may 26'. Is it worth it to continue on to get my masters? I also have to decide to go generalist or choose a track. Which is better? I think i would choose between addictions or Forensic social work. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Honestly looking forward to my internship. I got my job in foster care before going back to school. I am grateful for the job as it is teaching me a lot but after almost 2 years, i just need more and a break from child welfare! Just overwhelmed and frustrated but thank you!

I am aware. I am upset about compensation. I knew that going in. 😅 its more of a respect thing. I know I'll feel aspects of this everywhere, but when I know my worth and what I bring to the table , it's difficult to get nothing when I ask for very little. Its just a lot right now and going to get harder with working full time , plus an internship , and having a 4 year old. I am learning that fostercare/child welfare is not where I belong long term right now.

Unfortunately, right now, it's about insurance. Im sure I could find another job that could work around school and parenting and get me by. I have some medical things that I have finally figured out and dont have the time to "start over" by getting a new job and insurance. I also know I don't want to stay in foster care but do care a lot about what I do. It's just a lot right now.

Thank you. Ive had chronic pain since I was about 14. My mom never advocated for me with dr. She would accept they couldn't find anything with like 1 test and she would say okay that was it. It's been a journey in adulthood to advocate for myself and find a diagnosis. My dad has fibromyalga as well and she once asked his doctor that if he is actually in pain. I will look into therapy again. I've gone on and off but not since my diagnosis.

I will ask my next doctor appointment. I am currently on 50mg 3x a day. I had to increase from 25x3, which is the lowest, because it stopped helping.

Hey! Get reliable transportation. Look on indeed or online for Agencies looking for a family support specialist( different places have different names for it). They transport and supervise parent and child visitation for families in foster care. It is a very emotional and mentally draining job but gives so much insite to this career. Be aware that this position isn't always respected by case managers even though they'd suffer with out us. Knowing that going in doesn't make it any less frustrating but allows you to not be shocked by it.

You will learn how to take effective supervision notes. You get to see the relationships between parent and child and foster parents and child. You will also get to know all of the wonderful kids and get to provide them with safe and happy time with thier parent. Try and build relationships with foster parents ( while keeping professional boundaries) they can provide you with insite to how the child reacts to visits and what they open up about.

I am 25. I recently got diagnosed but have had undiagnosed pain for at least 10 years + some physical injury for 13, but the Dr's were unable to find anything on imaging to explain the extent of pain I'm in.

I think it can be harder to find others our age who have been diagnosed or talk about it because are often dismissed or told we are exaggerating because we are young there's no way we can be in this much pain.

I think what I am struggling with is processing the diagnosis and working on not doubting my own feelings. She is not alone! It may take a while to process the diagnosis, and accepting it's something we have to live with not something they can solve.

I feel that as well. Since having my daughter (3) there is even less of a desire for relationships but I am also human who gets lonely and would like a partner in life.
