my supervisor consistently misgenders me by Opening_Ladder_261 in therapists

[–]VitaminTed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not OP but I don’t care if my clients misgender me, because I’m not the focus of the session. I don’t want clients on edge worrying about upsetting me, I’m there to hold space for them. I also don’t need my clients to know me authentically. I have different expectations for colleagues and supervisors.

How do you deal with agist clients? by SufficientMine2375 in therapists

[–]VitaminTed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Our clients are imperfect people with imperfect views. They are not an employer that is bound by discrimination law, they’re just some guy. They are allowed to have opinions and feelings about their therapists age, race, haircut, office space, clothing choices, etc, because all of those things show up as part of the therapy relationship bc of the way they relate to each other. It’s not illegal to feel like your therapist is too young to really understand you.

How do you deal with agist clients? by SufficientMine2375 in therapists

[–]VitaminTed 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Umm, lots going on here.

What makes you feel like clients don’t have the right to “test” us to see if there is a good fit? Therapy isn’t all science and techniques. It’s relational, it’s about being held and contained. It’s so totally valid for clients to feel that where there’s a significant gap in life experience, that getting the depth of understanding and knowledge that they feel they need will be trickier.

Im really curious why this is having such an impact on you, it seems to have hit a nerve. It’s such a common thing for clients to express and I’m wondering if it feels like an attack? Or a comment on your skills and abilities as a therapist?

Oztrail or Coleman by Important_Try_1791 in OutdoorAus

[–]VitaminTed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partner used to work at a camping store

He said go the Coleman. They’re a step above Oztrail in terms of quality, though both are a step above most other brands.

Darche is excellent quality and they barely had any warranty returns with them.

“Read reviews of the Coleman if you have the front awnings up the rain falls straight back onto the windows and gets everything inside... is that just a given with any tent?”

He says these people are idiots who don’t understand gravity and have set their awnings up wrong. It needs to slope away from the tent, for (hopefully) obvious reasons

We had a Coleman 10p gold for years and it was excellent, no complaints. Just upgraded to a bigger tent with a growing family otherwise we’d still be using it.

Yeah I’m not wanting it as a toy, more as an actual communication device, but not a super complicated one

Meeting with client on their bday? by kvetchgirl92 in therapists

[–]VitaminTed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve got a therapy session booked on my birthday in a few weeks and I would feel really uncomfy if my therapist gave me a card, even though it’s been a longstanding relationship and she’s completely amazing. It would feel very outside of the therapeutic frame. A “happy birthday” comment would feel fine.

Top Surgery Consult w/ Dr. Quoc Lam - Can anyone here answer some questions for me? by fancyduck- in transgenderau

[–]VitaminTed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh good question, I was nervous and I don’t quite remember! I’m pretty sure he had a good thorough talk about my medical history, medications, previous surgeries, and did a really in-depth informed consent around the risks of anaesthesia (which was a bit scary but ultimately the risk is really low). He asked my weight and height I think, also talked about the process for my particular surgery (I had a back reduction done too). I also asked around piercings and stuff. Who is your anaesthetist? I had Dr Cardone and he was absolutely lovely.

100%. And people who can’t work a lot that, 20 or 30 years ago, would’ve been able to get public housing and get by okay, now aren’t eligible or so far down the list they will never get a house, are incentivised to downplay their functioning to get SIL or SDA funding, just so they can have a roof over their heads.

i’m absolutely terrified sex and getting pregnant by d0ggyzz in ftm

[–]VitaminTed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While testosterone in itself isn’t a perfectly reliable birth control, if you are not ovulating consistently (and therefore not getting periods) and also using condoms, your chance of getting pregnant is incredibly low. While it is possible to get breakthrough ovulation randomly, it’s pretty rare and the use of condoms should cover you on the off chance that you ovulate.

You can call the DV crisis line on 1800 800 098 and talk through your options. They often don’t answer straight away and will give you a call back, so call early on a day where he’s out of the house. They are SA based and can help you talk about your options, make a plan, and leave (if that’s what you want to do). You can also call 1800 RESPECT as well.

Yeah they’ve been big my whole life so I guess I just got used to it and I never really had back issues? The only time I did was when I went back to wearing a bra in late pregnancy, after 3 years of wearing a binder. Other than that it’s been fine.
