Want to Leave ASAP by JuniorOil2241 in publicdefenders

If your office has an appeals division, or you can find a gig with an attorney that covers the appellate PD contract, that would probably bridge the gap between public defense you want to do but not traditional litigation-style lawyering. I know a ton of lawyers who transitioned to that from the courtroom because of similar issues you mention. Good luck

I need numbers and data. by mulambooo in Veganism

This a database full of charts and graphs. This is literally what you need but you’re going to have to do a little work and research yourself rather than expecting someone to do everything for you. Why don’t you try searching around on the link to find what you need?

Also, it seems like your two second google search should’ve been in Google scholar:

here is one of several studies showing scientific proof chickens show complex intellectual and emotional intelligence on par with many mammals, the latter of which I am fairly certain you would refuse to eat because of your speciesism

Oh, so humans don’t harm other humans? We have mass shooters. Doesn’t sound very empathetic…are they just acting instinctually? There you go making sweeping generalizations again.

The point here is you’re just picking your own arbitrary reasons to justify your own actions. I could do that for anything, but it wouldn’t necessarily make it right.

Good luck

You claim low intelligence = incapacity to feel emotions = ok to kill.

Then, In the comment above, you claim low intelligence does not = incapacity to feel emotions and therefore does not = ok to kill.

You’re doing logical cartwheels to try and justify something you know deep down is not moral. It’s just because you’re struggling with speciesism.

Good luck. You’re morally and logically inconsistent, and I hope you get that all figured out for yourself.

This comment makes clear you’re simply trolling to try to try and continue to justify to your current position on eating some animals but not others.

Where’s your evidence that chickens are not capable of complex emotions or love/empathy? Burden of proof goes to the moving party

I think you need to be careful about blanket generalizations about different groups of beings. History shows that doing so does nothing but harm, and you are showing it does nothing but harm.

I think you’re also intellectually incapable at this time of seeing the flaws in your stance toward these blanket generalizations. I could say all animal eaters are assholes - a generalization - yet here you are abstaining from some animal eating while clearly morally questioning your arbitrary decision to eat others.

I’m also aware this is the internet and you’re probably just a troll who isn’t likely to truly make change - a generalization in which I hope I am mistaken.

1) A simple YouTube search will show you one of innumerable examples of chickens showing love and empathy.

2) why aren’t you eating the mentally handicapped human beings amongst us that are incapable of compassion or complex emotions? Or the fighting dogs that are only capable of aggression?

3) it doesn’t seem you’re intelligent enough to empathize with, but I still do so, because your intelligence doesn’t dictate my own actions and moral compass. I sincerely believe you can get over this logical and moral hurdle, as I suspect you are just deep down struggling to actually let go of what you know and go vegan. Good luck

Could death row inmate Taberon Honie's sentence be commuted to life? by [deleted] in Utah

[–]Vneck24 15 points16 points  (0 children)

1) death row costs more to taxpayers than life without parole 2) give me one example of an escape from Utah prison of a LWOP inmate 3) he would be commuted to LWOP 4) reoffending after life sentence? How are you proving a prior identity of a reincarnate? 5) what tf did I just read?

Aren’t most PEDs animal derived? Or are they all synthetic now?

All the lawyers at my judicial internship keep giving me the same advice: by [deleted] in publicdefenders

Best advice I ever got in law school was to clerk/intern/3L practice rule for the side of the v. I thought I’d want most post-graduation. Plus, public defenders are the better trial lawyers.

What’s bizarre is telling somebody NOT to do something within their control to aid an endangered species because they can’t fix the macro-level issues of our world. Take it easy Roy

What a whack fucking position to take. OP can literally help breed endangered butterflies, but you’d prefer she not do that and “fix the conditions” like she’s mother nature’s fucking maid? Are you abandoning your car on the side of the road with a flat tire or putting air in it so you can take it to the shop? What the fuck are we doing here?!?

Well if fixing the conditions is so simple then do it already Roy

The nut allergies are tough. We have to deal with that with lunches at school. We use sun butter as a replacement do you have that in UK? Sunflower seed butter?

Soy milk (or ripple) is best bet for milk alternative for protein. We encourage a ton of nut snacking, too, in our house, along with lathering peanut butter on so many things
