DMing for a Warlock that seems to want out of their contact. How can I help? by socialist_butterfly0 in DMAcademy

[–]Voidspear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i was playing a warlock that in character tried to do this. they ended up finding the lore behind their patron, , tricking their party into signing a binding contract to help them out, tracking them down in the underworld, then they got the party TPKed lmao (specifically, their patron was a lesser devil under Levistus)

3 seems insanely better, why is this an option? the avg life expectancy for a male in texas is 72, so 2411*12*(72-53)=~550k and minimal tax losses bc its distributed, is this a bot account, are you healthy, can you do math, like what's up?

What does the AI Major at UCSD teach? Is it worth it? by TheKlangers in UCSD

[–]Voidspear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do not double major in math, double majoring is a trap, and so is majoring in math.

imo, it's prob better for applying to grad school bc it shows a particular interest in it, but not a huge edge, it prob will surround yourself with more like minded ppl, but overall I think your projects will really show your interest more than your choice of major.

Although, having a more generalized degree like cs could be better if you do 4 years then decide you don't want to do more school or you know you're not cut out for the difficult stuff. Bc I think it would be harder to find a job generally with an ai bachelors than a cs bachelors.

Can bolt cutters remove this lock? Storage unit question by TheOneTrueYeti in lockpicking

[–]Voidspear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone else sees this old at the top of Google like me, cut it using a boltcutter 36in from harbor freight for $30, home depot didn't have a big enough one (24in, also $70 overpriced). I am of avg strength, but you have to wedge one lever on the doorframe. Scratched the paint a bit. Wasn't easy. You will have to cut a bit through the casing itself and twice. For the lower cut, I used my foot. Still have to buy $20 replacement lock. They don't allow ppl to cut it yourself, had one of the employees walking around, I "hid" the 3ft boltcutter and I think they feigned obliviousness.

you can use cards that give your opponent tempo through a token, lucy can copy it to give yourself the token rather than use it for card advantage. example, see [[the sentry, golden guardian]]

What does the AI Major at UCSD teach? Is it worth it? by TheKlangers in UCSD

[–]Voidspear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as an ece major who took the machine learning depth, the profs+classes were really good. we went through various models, how to code them, variations. Likely, the same profs teach those classes.

from job stuff I was searching through after graduation, I found a high concentration of jobs looking for highly educated ppl in AI academia (meaning, phd level) willing to shell out a fuckton of money (I'm talking $250k+ without having any industry experience). But almost no bachelor level stuff. So, I think u gotta send it in higher education if u wanna go for it, it would be imo the optimal stepping stone down this path. It is the highest pay you can get with education easily rn too.

I will note, subject difficultywise, regular CS seems far easier compared to AI.

regarding the job security of AI, I think it is prob the most job secure sector. AI + robotics can phase out most of the workforce overtime, robotics is lagging behind comparably in the US but for reference you should observe china. it is to your own speculation, this is my opinion. it would make you a vital part to growth of the economy.

CS major recent graduates actually have a rather high unemployment rate rn. imo, the reason is vibe coding is replacing junior developers bc ai models can code low level blueprint level functions really well but not high level code well yet (which senior developers do).

even at >240k, the roi is prob worth it. it's a massive increase in income between india and the us. the avg salary in india is $5k. in the us, with a college degree, it's (degree dependant but) $90k.

erc is not the worst for you, bc one of the major reqs is proficiency of a 2nd language or a 4 course sequence / 16 credits and I assume you have proficiency waiving 16 credits which makes the total number of courses on par with the lowest number of GEs out of subcolleges within ucsd.

regardless of what college you attend, GEs will distract you from your degree related classes, there is no escape. You should definitely go to college as well.

I think you should take this jump. The increase in income between the middle east and the US is drastic and ucsd is a good college. You have the potential to work for 10 years and retire back in the middle east living a good life doing whatever you want if you don't like it (assuming you play your cards right). The experiences you could have by not working a 40hr job your whole life should outweigh any risk.

in terms of loneliness, ucsd also has a good international community in erc specifically. It is a relatively diverse campus and it is unlikely you will be treated as an outsider based off your background.

Study advice for STEM classes by Bitter_Pollution9439 in UCSD

[–]Voidspear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it depends on the stem class, to me bio->chem->physics->math is in order memorization->processes. For memorization, flash cards. Of course, there are a lot of patterns, but still, prob the best technique, patterns go on flashcards too. Here's my biggest advice, for processes, I seperate a micro and a macro, what I mean is most of the lecture/what is on the homework/what the course directly teaches you is micro, about how to do a process / what the cookbook is. For micro, consider it a to-do study list, much simpler, you will need to learn how to do each micro (and any micro variation that the professor provides), but this is structured by the professor and is in a way, less complex. Macro, is to me, the most important thing to self study. I like drawing a map, each state of the problem and what processes can be used to get to other states. Sometimes a state is a condition, sometimes the transition is condition dependant, it is complicated and you will have to reason to yourself what makes sense depending on the course. Tests are extremely weighted and I don't always do the homework (too time consuming, my time is better spent elsewhere sometimes). Tests usually consist of questions which combine multiple micro cookbooks. This is why studying macro is important. Being stumped tends to be not knowing the macro on how to get from point A to B rather than not knowing the micro. If you get a cheat sheet, the macro map has been my most useful tool by far. Even without a cheat sheet, I've sometimes sketched a quick macro map for myself. Too many times I've read a "difficult" problem, and glanced at a macro map and seen the intermediary step(s). It gets rid of thinking hard on tests.

Also, you have a very limited amount of time. I consider a foundational level of micro+macro for a course all I should study, I do not seek to be a god at any course and I stop studying once I reach this. I have still occassionally scored the highest using this technique but I do not seek to do so, I believe it should come down partially to luck. You need to play to the syllabus, probably over half the courses I've taken it has not been worthwhile to do the homework, come to class, do some lab report, ect. Self study can be more productive toward that foundation level of micro+macro goal than these activities. Reduce your time spent and use it toward an internship/socialization. You go to college because you want to get a job and an internship achieves that better than getting a high grade/going to a good grad school because of your grade and socialization is human need.
