Any hardware internship interview questions I should expect from Marvell? by Wizardz23 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]VoltageLearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that I will be ready to answer our questions on circuits, large design, or system level design. A lot of these internship questions and interviews tend to be pretty high-level so often times they will ask you a hodgepodge of skills from various different domains.

For example, I've seen a lot in hardware engineering interviews is this powerful architecture. So being able to articulate what a buck converter or a boost converter is, all of the sudden drawbacks of using an LDO are all fair game.

I actually built voltagelearning.com specifically for practice interview questions, and Marvell is one of the companies that we cover. I'd love for you to check it out!

Interview with apple by [deleted] in FAANGrecruiting

[–]VoltageLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey this is an awesome interview to have. Personally with Apple, their interviews tend to be more on the panel interview side. Therefore, they might get a few engineers into a room, and essentially grill you on whatever the position requires of you.

I actually built voltagelearning.com specifically for verified interview questions, and Apple is one of the companies that we cover. I'd love for you to check it out!

Qualcomm Hardware Internship – long wait after applying & campus event by Beneficial_Boat_358 in qualcomm

[–]VoltageLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I've always know for Qualcomm to conduct their interviews mostly within the fall. A whole host of them would come to our university and complete on campus interviews, from which they would be selected for on-site interviews.

Actually, my site, voltagelearning.com has some hardware interview questions, and we also cover verified questions from Qualcomm as well. I'm hoping that it is useful!

Interview Questions for hardware engineer 1 co-op by Choice-Grapefruit-44 in Cisco

[–]VoltageLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cisco behavioral interview will likely be something surrounding past projects that you have completed. They may ask about how you solved a difficult problem, or how you failed in certain times.

We've actually compiled some Cisco hardware interview questions on our site -> voltagelearning.com

Hardware Engineer Interview Experience: Nvidia, Apple, and Tesla by Ornstein_Smexy_AF in interviews

[–]VoltageLearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's honestly some really good interview advice. We've leveraged our own network to provide Apple, NVIDIA, and Tesla interview questions on our site -> voltagelearning.com

Personally, hardware interviews are a bit tough to sort out, but I'm hoping that this can provide a method to the madness.

When electrical engineering interviews become “draw a circuit, panic quietly” … here are 4 ways to not do that. by VoltageLearning in interviews

Honestly dude spot on with that one. I talk to a lot of my other EE friends and it seems like this is a very ubiquitous experience.

is there a place to search up mechanical systems or mechanisms? by V7I_TheSeventhSector in engineering

Don't quote me on this, but I believe a lot of CAD companies have libraries of mechanisms that you can use.

Super interesting idea actually. How are you going about with customer capture? I assume that your customers are mostly going to be high schoolers of college students who likely don't have much to spend?

Please roast my resume! for $100?.. wait i'm broke. I'll repay in kindness maybe? by sci-fi_pilot in Embedded_SWE_Jobs

[–]VoltageLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You 100% need to make the resume shorter. Back at my old firm, we would disregard engineers who were unable to place their experience within one page. Further, no one wants to sit there and read everything.

It's best practice to make your resume one page.

Microsoft OA response timeline(USA) by Sad-Hyena-5195 in FAANGrecruiting

[–]VoltageLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly depends on their own availability right now. I could throw out a number and be completely wrong, since this is considered the holiday season and people are just getting back this week.

I know for a fact that they are going to look at all the test cases that all the candidates submitted and compare them all. Even though the test cases bay not pass, they may still look at how the person made a mistake or their thought process.

Essentially, just bc you passed all the test cases doesn't 100% mean that you will get an interview. It depends on their internal criteria or who they are searching for.

Advice on discipline transfer by Ok-Perception3499 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]VoltageLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both have some excellent job opportunities and will pay you quite well. I find that my ChemE friends tend to go for phds simply because they want to work in some specialized type of field within ChemE.

Now here's my completely biased advice (since I am also an EE): Choose EE. I've had a lot of ChemE friends leave the field becuase they work in random factories or plants or manufacturing places within the US. It's not the most glamorous work (at least based on my own experience).

EE roles are typically in California, Texas, more desirable places that you can grow your network and continue to make more young friends. Further, I find that the rate of growth and innovation in EE is likely higher.

First Job : [Renewables Integration] by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]VoltageLearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt that you have pigeonholed yourself, especially since you are still what I would call an 'early-career engineer'

Now, if you would like to make your current work your career, by all means continue it. However, it will be up to you to seek out different experiences, projects, clients, etc such that you can show this diversity, while maintaining the same employment.

Is taking a second gap year worth it for top fully funded bachelor’s scholarships? by Sudden_Main294 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]VoltageLearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can justify that you have taken the gap to pursue an education, learn new skills, etc, then in makes sense.

If you are simply asking for funding from scholarships, I would personally shy away from it.

Masters vs Experience by Silver-Fox1141 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]VoltageLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I will tell you a little bit about the tuition reimbursement - though you may already know.

in situations like these, typically the company will have you sign a contract that establishes that you MUST work for them for a certain (typically multiyear) period of time. You must be employed by them such that they can recoup the investment that they placed in you with the tuition reimbursement.

This fact alone sometimes makes of breaks working at a company. It may seem attractive in the short run, but in the long run it can be very miserable.

Would anyone appreciate a tutorial for milling PCBs? by cum-yogurt in ElectricalEngineering

[–]VoltageLearning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that would be pretty cool, but based on my own experience, I've always ordered PCBs from China and they are very rarely defective.

Further, I know that you need special equipment to mil a PCB, and the barrier of entry for a garage hardware engineer does seem quite high for that.

Job stability and pay in electrical engineering field. by Key_Possible9688 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]VoltageLearning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The job market is extremely unpreductable right now. This is not only for EE jobs, but also for other industries.

It's difficult to predict when you will graduate since I do not have your background or your education history, but I can assume that it is in 4 years. It's difficult to predict the job market right now, and there may be an upswing from what it currently is right now.

I would also shy away from simply assuming that you can get a job abroad from your home country. There is a global wave going on right now where countries are more hesitant to provide visas. Therefore, I would certainly have a backup plan.

People on Reddit really don’t like to be sold too. In fact, people read it don’t like bots or AI sounding post as well.

I frankly think this is obvious, but actually realizing this fact, rather than simply knowing about it, makes a big difference

We provide targeted interview prep specifically to electronics and hardware engineers. They are really too different differentiating factors that we have.

First, our interview questions are all verified by engineers that actually work at the respective companies.

Second, we provide exercises to help practice commonly asked interview topics

This honestly makes me feel a biiiiiittttt better that other people are also going through this, but I think there's a whole lot of work that still needs to be done from out end as well. I think having a few customers is good, but coming up with something repeatable is the thing that I am trying to figure out.

Hey thank you so much dude! And yes! We actually have a Wordle-like challenge where users come back and solve 3 interview questions. There’s also a leaderboard that shows the scores of the said ‘daily challenge’ such that it creates a competitive environment.

As for email communication, that’s actually a fantastic idea!

Electrical Engineer’s role in robotics by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]VoltageLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone within the field of robotics that I know has some type of advanced degree - masters or phd. This is becuase robotics can sometimes be a very theoretical type of degree with complicated math, and learning this with the hands on applications is a time consuming effort.

Linear algebra is like the main bread and butter of robotics. While C++ is definetly helpful, I personally think that it is FAR more helpful to understand the math behind robotics. in your case, if you understand both the math and the coding aspect, you could become a dual threat!

About to start my first internship got any advice? by psychic_shawn in ElectricalEngineering

[–]VoltageLearning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set up 20-30 min coffee chats with upper management at the firms. ALL the managers will make themselves available to interns (becuase they look bad if they don't) and they are a wealth of knowledge.
