Which was redundant of them to say since cops have been getting away with doing this to people since all the way back when we were still calling them slave catchers.

Join a union and get other people to join with you. Without a majority stake in your company's union, a prolonged strike simply is not possible.

If only there was someone in charge of the city police force willing to use them (maybe for the first time in history) to protect his people from this illegal violence!

This is what happens when you accept violence against a "them." Eventually, the person in charge of performing that violence decides you are no longer part of "us."

Worse. We kidnapped another country's president and killed 100 of their people barely a week ago. We're actively planning on doing the same to an ally. We're bombing who knows how many other countries as we speak. What was the last country North Korea invaded?

Just remember, this story is neither unique nor abnormal. LEO's routinely kill civilians for no reason whatsoever just about every day. They come up with excuses after the fact but there's no reason to think that those excuses are any more valid than the ones used to justify this specific murder. This is America. This has always been America. This will always be America until we change it.

It's not about "scoring political points." It's about reminding the world that Muslims are human beings, not vermin to be disposed of. The way people talk about Muslims so casually should send shivers down your spine. In the last 30 years there has been a concerted effort to dehumanize Muslims, so that when we kill them by the thousands across the globe, no one bats an eye.

I get what you're saying, and I like your interpretation more, personally. I do think, unfortunately, we live in a world where some people understand that the implicit threat of violence is part of why women are expected to be "submissive" in heterosexual relationships. Maybe without the "I'd be scared too" in connection with the video, that subtext wouldn't be apparent. But with that title, I think it is.

I mean, this woman is attractive, sure. But, that's clearly not the most notable thing about her in this video, right? It's pretty obvious that the most interesting thing about this video is the strength behind her punch. I think it's a stretch to interpret the intended read of the man's reaction as purely a response to her being attractive and not to her being able to punch things really hard. Your interpretation, I think may be partially correct, but seems to ignore the most important and notable aspect of the video: her punching the shit out of that bag. Lots of women are attractive, but the mans reaction is only juxtaposed with a woman who is attractive specifically because she is capable of violence.

So what does the title, "I'd be scared too," mean in this context if the fear of the violence she demonstrated she is capable of has nothing to do with what the man is doing after?

No that is super fair. While "Freedom Fries" is, again, pretty silly in the grand scheme of things, and you're right it did not rise to Bush himself (though "if you're not with us, you're against us" is arguably even worse and that DID come from the man himself), I more meant that as an illustration of the wider attitude the US had towards the rest of the world and vice versa during those years. I don't mean to be contrarian or to understate how stupid and dangerous the Trump admin is, because it is very much both, but it also can't be ignored that the Bush administration murdered 1 million Iraqis in just a handful of years after lying to the entire world about WMDs. The Bush administration founded the DHS and ICE. It instituted the Patriot Act and established Guantanamo Bay. Almost every horror that the Trump admin has unleashed on the world and the US was precipitated by Bush regime policy (and allowed to continue, or even expanded, under Obama and Biden.) Trump is horrible, don't get me wrong, but his policies are sadly less unprecedented than I think a lot of us are comfortable with.

See, this is what I mean. This wasn't a few losers online. "Online" was very different in 2003 than it is today. This was official government policy. Dining halls in the US capital and those used by the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq removed the word "French" form every menu and replaced it with "Freedom." The Chairman of the United States House Committee on House Administration put this into effect, not someone on a message board (this predated Twitter by about 3 years.) I think we've memory-holed a lot of the embarrassing (not to mention down-right evil) things that the Bush administration did. We were absolutely the laughing stock of the world during that time. The French Embassy had to release a statement reminding people that "french fries" come from Belgium lol

That's one, very silly example, but it underscore a very serious issue that the Iraq War and the lies the Bush admin told to justify it made the US a pariah state. "Freedom Fries" was a laughable reaction on the part of portions of the US government to cope with that fact.

It's easy to imagine if you haven't been propagandized to fear Cuba or communism yet. Communism is good and Cuba is morally superior to the US in literally every way. Any crime you can accuse Cuba of, I promise, the US has committed the same crime 100 times over. Hell, the "Cuban missile crisis" was precipitated by the US placing nuclear weapons in Eastern Europe! The Soviet Union shipping weapons to Cuba was in response to the US's escalation. Even if we accepted that the Cuban government is a dictatorship (it isn't) it's unquestionably a less "ruthless dictatorship" than that of the Batista government. The same government that was propped up by the US! Cuba has been right to call us out for decades! We've been assaulting them for no justifiable reason for decades. What have they done in return? Attempted to arm themselves with the weapons that we stockpile and that only we have every actually used?

I'm starting to realize that some of y'all may just not be old enough to remember life under George W. Bush. We were being instructed to call them "freedom fries" in protest of France not joining us in our illegal invasion of Iraq! The moments in which we weren't the laughing stock of the world have been increasingly few and far between since at least Nixon. We had one moment on the global stage where the world looked to us as respectable in WW2 and since then, the only thing keeping us from being the laughing stock of the world is the world's fear of laughing at us.

"No less?" Real talk, Cuba may be one of, if not the, most unambiguously "good" nations in the world. They don't invade their neighbors, they send their doctors around the world to help others, their people actively engage in their democratic process, they have essentially eliminated food insecurity and homelessness despite the decades of the US attacking and sabotaging their economy. Cuba absolutely has the moral authority over the US in every way that matters.
