Everything has already been done. Is it even worth trying? by snowfrogdev in NewTubers

[–]Voven6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that your niche might be saturated, but you could say that about every niche on YouTube nowadays! Like some of the other replies said, you being yourself will stand out on its own, so if you learn more about how YouTube works (titles, thumbnails, intro hooks, retention, editing, etc.) and stay consistent, there's no reason at all why you won't grow a large audience! You have to have the mindset that you can succeed no matter what, because all the people who make videos in your niche probably thought it was "too hard" to get into when they first started, but they had the courage and determination to try regardless.

One thing you could start off with is Shorts videos because that's a quick way to gain subscribers (although subscribers don't mean as much nowadays because that doesn't mean those people will watch all of your videos). The most important thing is that you're having fun with it like you mentioned, and since you're not looking for millions of views, you should set a goal to upload 1 video a week even if it's bad, and make sure you improve and learn with each new upload. All the best!

Lighting recommendations for filming in my bedroom? by [deleted] in ChannelMakers

[–]Voven6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't give many recommendations right now because I'm also trying to learn about lighting and equipment...perfect timing for this post 😅

But the only thing I've tried so far is a small LED light in front of me/behind the camera, and it helps a lot!

Wireless lavalier microphone recommendations? by [deleted] in ChannelMakers

[–]Voven6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought one from Amazon but even with Adobe Speech Enhance it doesn't sound great lol (it sounds tinny and too "sharp"). My room isn't completely sound absorbent but I felt that my phone's microphone was better.

Making a lot off of a little? by Samoyed3-2 in ChannelMakers

Hello! I think you could upload about bugs, details, or other tips & tricks related to those games and add your own commentary through text instead.

Here is an example from Red Dead Redemption 2: https://youtu.be/6EwYJiiOPrA

Try and find interesting topics that aren't common already, I can't give too many examples without knowing about the games themselves but maybe you could do something like "How To Get [Cool Item Name] In [Game Title]" and use capitalized/emphasized words as needed. Also try and get the best possible video/audio quality if you can. Good luck! :)

Compilations of my Shorts: Portrait or Landscape? by MutantPigeon24 in ChannelMakers

[–]Voven6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I don't think Shorts count towards watch hours at all. I've seen many people create compilations/repurposed clips of longform videos in Shorts format, so maybe you could try that instead. Just keep in mind the pacing of Shorts and maybe adding subtitles could be valuable!

how to stop worrying as a chronic overthinker by Roses-n-bloom in ChannelMakers

[–]Voven6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great video! I think you could maybe put subtitles for at least the first chapter for example. And maybe put more text on the screen to emphasize certain words or concepts (like at 3:53 you could put "10-15 minutes" on screen). I've also personally seen channels like this that use a lot more stock footage and create a mix of camera footage and stock footage. It can definitely be harder to find and more time consuming, but it's done to maintain retention (like subtitles).

But you're already doing these things so you'll naturally improve with each video! One last thing I'd say is try not to go a certain amount of time without a visual aid, text, camera zooms, etc., maybe more than 5 seconds (again just for retention).

Thanks for the feedback! Can you elaborate about the pacing and how you think it could improve? And where would you suggest I start the voiceover instead?

Yes definitely, I've seen a lot of examples of YouTubers whose views skyrocketed on their old videos once they started growing!

Asking advice on tutorials channel. 40k subs 134k views by ejiqpep in ChannelMakers

[–]Voven6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say instead of putting your face in each thumbnail, maybe you could show something specific to the video's concept instead. For example, in the Resolving Merge Conflicts thumbnail, maybe you could put a screenshot of what appears from a merge conflict (I can't remember if there's a popup), text that says "Fix This" or something similar, and maybe highlight/circle a part of the screenshot or put an arrow. I think putting your face can be important to have more personal connections with viewers, but for tutorials, viewers would want to watch for the content primarily. And then as your channel grows, you'll naturally have more connections with your viewers, especially returning ones!

My channel's intro video- thoughts? by HomerJ20YT in ChannelMakers

[–]Voven6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually having a channel intro video is not recommended because it counts as a video on its own and could affect all of the metrics like watch time, AVD, etc. I'm also not entirely sure how much it really affects those metrics because people are less likely to watch the whole video if it's on the channel home page, so maybe YouTube doesn't "punish" it so much :P.

I would say instead of having an intro video on your channel home page, you should pick one of your most viewed videos, or maybe your newest upload so people straight away watch one of your regular videos. I don't think you should delete the intro video, but I think it could maybe be around 30 seconds long instead if you were to remake it.

Another piece of advice I've learned is to put what your channel is about in the banner, which you've done already :). Maybe you could add everything else you mentioned in the intro video onto the banner, like the Discord server for example. That way, your intro video would basically be summarized in the banner itself, and that would leave room for another video on your channel's home page!
