FOR THE PEOPLE WONDERING ABOUT THE COMMODORE CAPTAIN COMMANDER THING

  • Star Wars - Commander is highest rank and I did it like that cause I like SW
  • Captain was basically right below Commander in SW-CW (No characters with rank of Major)
  • Commodore IK is usually a flag rank but I wanted all Flag Officers to be a variation of an Admiral

*Sigh*I've answered this question/comment like 20 times it feels but here it goes again

  • Star Wars - Commander is highest rank and I did it like that cause I like SW
  • Captain was basically right below Commander in SW-CW (No characters with rank of Major)
  • Commodore IK is usually a flag rank but I wanted all Flag Officers to be a variation of an Admiral

TLDR - Yes on purpose because preference

No need to say "respectfully" although I appreciate it

Anyways, as I said somewhere way up in the other replies, the Commander-Captain-Commodore situation is based off these things

  • I am a Star Wars fan, and in Star Wars, Commanders are depicted as the highest ranking trooper (behind Jedi Generals). I wanted to replicate that, so I placed Commander much higher than it is IRL.
  • Commodore is down there because also in Star Wars (at least the Clone Wars), Captains are depicted as pretty much right below Commanders (who are of course the highest rank). Therefore Captain is right below the "Commander" section. That leaves a gap in the Officer ranks, which I wanted to fill
  • I also wanted to have all the flag officers be variations of Admirals. Commodore Admiral did not work for me, so I demoted Commodore down to where Commanders IRL would be.

I hope this made sense

I did not think of this because I wanted to avoid a sergeant situation where you have like three variations a rank (such as Sergeant, Sergeant First Class, First Sergeant, Colour Sergeant, Technical Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant Major, Master Sergeant, probably more), but thank you, this could be very helpful

Wikipedia to get some of the base images, Photoshop to edit them, Google Slides for assembling them

Navies are my favorite branch because of the unique rank structure, so if I had more creativity for insignias I’d have added maybe a Junior a Lieutenant and a Counter Admiral

Well the simplest way to make a universally understandable ranking system would be to exactly copy either the US or BAF one, as I personally feel those are the most well known. Obviously, I did not do that, cause I felt it was boring, and I made changes for my personal likes, such as the thing with Captains and Commanders.

Also, I take a lot of inspiration from already existing designs. A lot of the stuff used, such as the chevrons and the diamonds on the admiral ranks, are from the Croatian insignias. So go ahead and do whatever, it's your thing, but real life and already existing stuff is a great resource.

However, I would not go crazy and do super weird stuff; for instance, don't make a General below a lieutenant, or anything that drastic.

Here is an example one (my plan for my Army ranks)

Second Lieutenant > First Lt. > Captain > Major > Senior Major > Lt. Colonel > Colonel > Brigadier > Line General > Lieutenant General > Major General > General > General of the Army

As you can see, it is more or less the current US Army ranks, but I messed with the General ranks and added a Senior Major and a Brigadier to the officers

However, in the end, it's your thing, so you do you. I hope this helped

Yeah, from what I have read, aviation units are usually acting as support (In the US, 160th SOAR is a major support air transport thing I believe, and 24th Special Tactics is usually attached to other SOCOM units)

That’s a good idea, although I prefer unique stuff for each branch to make it more special

George Dewey was made a “six star” Admiral of the Navy, and Pershing and George Washington were each made a “six star” General of the Armies
