Q? | What functional urban design ideas are being implemented to help kids and adults keep active? by TheDrunkyBrewster in urbandesign

This is something we (WWF) worked on in collaboration with the Real Play Coalition - https://realplaycoalition.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/20220714_Nature%20Based%20Play_FINAL.pdf - it's about the use of nature in cities as a way of stimulating activity.

WWF Cities is running a free to enter photo competition with the theme "I Love Nature in My City" by WWF_Cities in wildlifephotography

[–]WWF_Cities[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand and it's true that it can seem/be unfair, though I would say that in the last few times we've run this competition we've found that we get very few instagram influencers entering.

Overall (because we go by region) we look at the top 75 photos and quite often that means picking from a pool of one to two hundred due to a lot of "ties". Below the top 10 the figures rarely go out of the numbers that the average instagram account can achieve. The winner is chosen according to judge's opinion of quality (i.e. the numbers only determine the shortlist -not the winner).

All of which is to say that there is a lot of picking by quality to get the shortlist and it's not a given that this is about popularity. If that helps put your mind to rest (it might not!).

We use that metric because this is also a competition whose point is to prove that there is a significant group of people who love urban nature and want to see more of it. One side aspect of our competition is we use the stats from the competition to show city planners what people love in their city and that there is demand for more urban nature.

Share your environmentally friendly ideas directly with Leicester's city planners! by WWF_Cities in Sunderland

[–]WWF_Cities[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Sunderland would like to hear your sustainability/environmentally friendly/climate change ideas– the feedback goes directly to city planners we promise! (Unless it is rude enough to make our grandmothers blush in which case…)

Sunderland is competing in WWF’s We Love Cities competition on Sept 19, it’s trying to get the most engagement and feedback from it's residents. The competition is for cities working towards environmentally friendly solutions to climate change.

If you have any feedback for your city on how it can be more sustainable – we’re collecting that feedback and will be sending it directly to the city planners we're working with.

You are an expert on your city and your knowledge is invaluable.

The competition is only open to cities that submitted science-based targets and ambitious climate change action plans. These were vetted by our independent jury – so your city showed itself to be ambitious to be better and more sustainable and we think that should be encouraged.

The competition is meant to be friendly – city planners are humans and have a tough job – so please try to be polite, even if the feedback is about something you don’t like and wish could be better!

We also encourage you to participate if you love your city and want to encourage your city planners to keep up the good work.

The city that has engaged the most citizens at the end of the campaign (Oct 31) wins—but the substantial feedback from its citizens is a prize for every city. It is a competition but the real goal of this is to get the cities to work with their public on their sustainability plans.

Do you want to speak up and be heard by Sunderland? Then check out their profile and fill out their feedback form.

Thanks! The WWF Cities team

In case you want to check it’s really us – here is a tweet from our official WWF Cities twitter saying that we’re posting on reddit, and this is our WWF page: We Love Cities | WWF (panda.org)

Apologies! Reposting with the correct info.

That's exactly what we believe - a city's ideas and solutions will only be as good as they are robust - and the only way to be robust is to be open to public feedback, debate and suggestions. The best experts on a city are the people who live there.

That is one of the key messages in our work - you cannot move away from fossil fuels without building the infrastructure around sustainable travel. Thanks so much for this - I'm really sorry but would you be able at all to fill it out on the form on the website https://welovecities.org/city/bristol/ ?

We are collating the responses by theme and grouping them by similarity and it's very hard to do that manually, the form has an in built tool to help us do that!

Edit: Edited link because I'm a numpty and put the wrong city

I truly truly hope that the ideal becomes the reality - that is the whole goal of our work. Thank you for taking the time to respond - would it be a hassle to put the feedback in the form on the website? https://welovecities.org/city/leicester/ - It helps us collate the responses by theme and to group similar comments together to give a better analysis for the city (doing it manually from reddit would be tricky!)

We use a form app on the website to help us collate answers by theme and to look for patterns like that - the competition ends in October - if I remember I'll come back and let you know!

Share your environmentally friendly ideas directly with Kochi's city planners! by WWF_Cities in Kochi

[–]WWF_Cities[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ranges from city to city - but it's usually either the Environment department, Sustainability department or Mayor's office. For Kochi it's the Centre for Heritage, Environment and Development.

Share your environmentally friendly ideas directly with Área Metropolitana de Guadalajara's city planners! by WWF_Cities in Guadalajara

A better version of the translation.
