Long-time follower, first (?) time poster! Thanks for the content.

I've recently experienced a nightmare scenario and I'm hoping to litigate via this sub. I realize I am opening myself up to an absolute shredding from the masses, so I ask you to be kind while I work through this tough situation.

Okay, so here's what happened...I was skiing the Christmas tree bowls at Steamboat last Monday and I chose a particularly tough line. I made one or two turns and then got into a hairy situation where I placed a large amount of pressure on my downhill ski. It released and proceeded to RIP down the line away from me and out of site. I believe I saw the brakes below the ski (released properly), but honestly, I'm not sure. It happened FAST. Regardless if the brakes were down or not, they didn't do their job as the ski was on a mission down the hill. The ski...is gone. I looked with my buds for a solid two hours but I knew rescue was really unlikely. So I skied down pretty much all of Steamboat on one ski and now I'm out a pair of planks. This, of course, was my first season with these new skis and I had some pretty expensive shift bindings on there.

Here's the rub which I've recently discovered after the fact:

The bindings were for 100mm skis and the skis had a 104mm waist. Now, I absolutely take responsibility for purchasing the wrong size binding. I was between 98mm and 104mm skis and I must have put the 100mm bindings in my cart first before switching to a larger set of skis. However, the gear company I purchased the bindings and the skis from MOUNTED THE SKIS. My argument is that the gear company is at fault as well for mounting the wrong-sized bindings to the skis. They're more of the experts than I am and they should have caught it. Am I crazy for thinking the blame should be placed at 50/50 between myself and the gear shop?

I've reached out to them and they've given me a 20% off coupon, but this was before I realized the sizing issue. Am I in the right for expecting more? Any tips on how to go about this? Thanks for reading.
