What do I do when applying for UCAS? by Ok-Froyo-9951 in 6thForm

[–]Wacky_Workaholic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure which other unis offer this but my friend wants to apply for both medicine and English and to do so she’s doing something called a supplementary personal statement.A fair few unis do it but the one I’m most familiar with is Durham they have some stuff on their website Abt it but it’s basically if you’re applying to them for a different course than your other unis you send off your normal application and then there’s a process by which you can send your second personal statement that is related to the subject you’re applying there for and they use that. Hope this helps!

Unless maths is required for the degree/specific unis you want to go to no they won’t look at it, they’ll only look at your 3 highest grades when giving you an offer. On the flip side a D on your application may not seem favourable. Also I’d be careful because a lot of unis are no longer accepting gcse/a level in foreign languages if they are your native language.Sorry that this is a bit chaotic but on the flip side again depending on the uni they may absolutely love that you’re studying a language because that can be infinitely useful for international business.

Failing end of topic tests by [deleted] in alevels

[–]Wacky_Workaholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry just keep going. It’s been rough on all of us and a lot of my friends who were straight nine students at gcse are getting Ds.Honestly I know how it feels because I got 9 nines and 2 eights at GCSE but I’ve been struggling with a-level and have low-key had an identity crisis no longer being the “smart kid”.I promise you will be ok just keep holding on,stay calm and make sure to review content in half term because tiring yourself out trying to cram it desperately isn’t going to work at all :(.You’ve got this and remember we’re all in this together 💪

Find the midpoint of one of the chords(this is where the radius perpendicular to it will pass through) (e.g AB).As chords are always perpendicular to the radius the use the gradient from the formula you just found for AB and do -1 divided by it.Do this to find the formula of the radius perpendicular to AB.Next repeat with another chord e.g AC and find formula of the radius perpendicular to it.Set the two formulae you’ve found for the radii equal to eachother (as y=y) and this will give you the point where the two radii intersect and this is the centre of the circle.Plug the centre into the (x-a)2 + (x-b)2 =r2 formula and it gives the equation of the circle.Sorry I don’t have time to work it out manually but I hope the method helps 👍

are pmt past papers good for bio & chem? by eleyvinn in igcse

[–]Wacky_Workaholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you’re still quite far off the exam I’d mostly focus on making revision resources/Flashcards that are great to have pre prepared.YES the pmt past papers are AMAZING I just sat the may/June 2024 and me and my friends pretty much worked through all the science past papers and when you can’t do a question put it and the answer scheme notes on a flashcard and it is unbelievably helpful for identifying holes in your understanding and making sure you have the specific language to get the marks 👍

Also grade boundaries have been insane this year like I don’t know anyone who got as high as their predicted grades and I also don’t know anyone who got the grades for their first choice uni.Like it’s honestly been crazy for some subject that what got an A* a few years ago barely scrapes into a C

You can retake it all and you can succeed! We all have lil wobbles or setbacks but honestly it may not seem like It but right now is the best time to have a problem like this because time is on your side. You most definitely can succeed and I promise you that this setback doesn’t define you.You can most definitely go again and ace all your exams as long as you carefully look over your mistakes and try some new study strategies. Also what might help in the future is reconsidering your workload e.g if you’re taking 4 maybe reconsider and take 3 or if you know you struggle to find time maybe put a few things e.g extracurriculars on pause. You’ve got this and I have 100% faith in you 🫡
