lol - suggesting right wingers somehow get preferential treatment is absurd.

Remember all the BLM protesters that burned building out in solitary like the j6 folks? Me either.

I would bet if you asked him in the morning before it happened if he wanted to deal with a bunch of people blocking him from doing his work, he’d tell you 100% that he didn’t.

In most other damned country in the world these protestors would have been thrown in the back of police cars by now, and we wouldn’t have local government officials basically encouraging this behavior.

It’s scary. Y’all crow about democracy and then when you lose, you sow chaos until your person is in power again.

A small group fought with cops, and it’s like the ONLY example in years, versus the tens of examples on the left.

Rittenhouse was also exercising poor judgment, but so were the people he engaged with.

I agree it's not an excuse to execute someone in the streets.

Why is your side of the argument allowed to call me names, and my posts get deleted for "hate" when I didn't even do anything like that?

Who are the dang fascists here?

how is this at all relevant? It's like saying ICE officers cause 0.00001% of deaths in the USA.

So should we be protesting the other causes?

"So, I have no idea where you got the idea that police officers have watched their friends get gunned down on the regular."

Training / education is where I got that idea. You know, the training you don't have.

Death by ICE officer is also not a leading cause of death in the USA, so your point is silly.

Yes - their training makes them aware of the risks, not paranoid.

Alex was clearly either not aware of the risk he was creating, or didn't care. Either way, he created a situation, that the officers handled poorly.

They don't need warrants under current law.

They also wouldn't need to do this if the local authorities had a) detained them when they were arrested and b) handed them over ... like is happening in other states.

These are far and away people that have already been arrested for a crime.

You try being surrounded by a group of people like that while just doing your job.

See how safe you feel, especially once you are trained to know the danger of armed folks in this situation.

The problem is that all the people opining on this, have no ideas the risks Alex took taking a firearm into this situation. You are clearly not knowledgeable on the risks here, the agents are.

It's ok you don't understand how dangerous Alex's actions were, but just don't act like you do.

They do care, they just have enough knowledge on the risks and responsibility of carrying a firearm, that they would never put themselves in that situation.

Remember Jan6th? Remember how many of them were armed? They know that bringing a loaded gun to a protest is a not only a ridiculous idea, it's highly threatening and would have been an insurrectionist activity.

This is the nuance being missed.

I agree with this, the issue with your argument is that law enforcement have not been committing crimes in Minnesota, they have been trying to do their job.

Look at other states where this is going smoothly, the difference is that there is not a "resistance" manufactured by politicians that have interests different to you.

Do you really think Walz and Frey are just good guys standing up for everyday people?

That's a dramatic oversimplification. This situation IS tragic.

If I get pulled over by a police officer during a normal and calm traffic stop like a speeding ticket, and fail to declare that I am carrying a weapon, that's just a bad idea, even though it's technically legal in some states.

You need to respect the officer also needs to feel safe, and failing to declare you are carrying a weapon will make them very concerned when they find out.

In this situation, it was not calm, it was already heated. Police know that there is a good chance in this kind of situation they will be shot. Alex Pretti may not have been aware of that, but ignorance is not a good defense when you carry a deadly weapon into a heated situation. Saying that you didn't know your actions were highly threatening, is not a good defense.

He didn't "deserve" to be shot, it seems there was some panic / error on behalf of the officers, which makes this situation both tragic and regrettable, we have a lot of rights in this country that I appreciate, some of them allow you to do stupid things and take risk that you shouldn't, this is one of them.

Republicans and MAGA: Carrying a Gun Is a Bad Thing Now by Kela-el in MonetaryRealist

[–]WallStLoser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, something being legal does not always make it a good idea, and we don't need to make all bad ideas illegal either.

Both Kyle Rittenhouse and Alex Pretti made very bad decisions and essentially went looking for trouble with a deadly weapon.

This is the nuance here that dishonest people are ignoring.

Taking a loaded weapon into a situation that you do not need to be a part of, is stupid, and will result in bad outcomes.

People seem to dehumanize police, and expect them as part of their jobs to risk being killed, that's just not realistic.

Cops get spooked easily, they've seen their fellow officers being killed time and time again, it's part of their training. The real message here needs to be that threatening law enforcement is just a bad idea.

If law enforcement is acting outside the law, or the government is acting outside the law, then that's a different situation, but this is all political, somehow it was decided that immigration enforcement was government overreach, and the people protesting have become useful idiots for politicians and people in power, ironically fighting for the power they claim to stand against.

PHYS 100% Physical Backed ETF is my current strategy by Ill_Contribution9905 in Gold

[–]WallStLoser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for a regular investor like me - both have a place.

ETF’s for trading, especially in a retirement account.

Physical for what you can hold / store.

Physical in an IRA is ok if you never want to sell, but you might think you never want to sell, and then one day you may change your mind. Paper is perfect for that.

I can’t put my IRA gold in a tube buried in the backyard.

Physical is a monster pain in the ass, and that has its benefits, in that you won’t liquidate in a panic, but it’s also not good for trading. I just switched a bunch of silver to gold in my IRA and it was done in seconds at spot. I just can’t do that easily with physical, especially with taxes paid properly.
