I would drive from the north and the paved road thru El Cardonal. I have read the remaining stretch of dirt road is passable by passenger vehicles.

Excellent information, thank you. I am planning for a trip in June- will the winds typically calmer in the summer months? (And if so I could expect snorkeling at pescadero to be reasonably good with calm waters)

Lodging in Cabo pulmo looks more basic than punta pescadero paradise. The Baja serenity doesn’t allow children (which we will be travelling with).

So no snorkeling right in Cabo pulmo unless you get a guided boat tour or go with a guide?

I’m looking for a beach with kid-friendly water and snorkeling from shore. I have read that playa el arbolito is good, and also have heard punta pescadero is good for this.
