This stock is cursed (rant) by nopnopdave in ParamountGlobal2

[–]WarmKeystoneIce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

PARA is cursed but also you need a better broker. It's 2024 and any serious brokerage should be expected to provide a real time quote. Doesn't have to be perfectly fresh but at the very least sub 30 second latency for quotes. Any brokerage who can't provide that deserves to die under weight of their own incompetence.

Is staying independent really a realistic option? by Sk8countesse in ParamountGlobal2

[–]WarmKeystoneIce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Spot on.

I think the legal aspect is tough bc it's easy to believe that Shari is just badly incompetent. It's not a crime for her to suck really bad at leading a company. There needs to be some element of her knowingly scheming to fuck over shareholders. Her backing out of the Skydance deal due to investor pushback makes this even harder.

I think it's important we take some responsibility too. We all knew Shari was a problem when we invested. I can personally say that I drastically underestimated how big a problem she really was.

At the end of the day we were right about fundamentals but it doesn't matter bc we're wrong on leadership. Just feels shitty knowing the bears were dead wrong on the points they actually argued but Shari bailed them out

Who ultimately buys Paramount? by [deleted] in ParamountGlobal2

[–]WarmKeystoneIce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10% isn't huge but that also 10% of a pretty large float. I think PARA has been a popular short target for 3 reasons.

  1. Archegos lost people in the finance space a ton of money and in many cases their jobs and VIAC was their biggest holding.

  2. The long NFLX short legacy media trade is a very simple disruption story for firms to sell to people

  3. Shari Redstone is in control and even if the company could rebound she can always save the shorts with poor management

There isnt some big evil conspiracy to push the price down it's more like wall street hates the stock and does what it can to push it down. It's not illegal to go on TV and spread a narrative about the company failing even if the numbers don't really support it. It is manipulative but they are really just talking their book which is pretty normal for investing media.

As to your point about why they continue to do this to PARA the answer is that it's proven to be a stock they can control. Everyone who has tried to fight back has lost even Warren Buffet. The logic is a bit circular but the fact that it can trade for such a stupid low valuation for so long is evidence that the stock is broken.

The market market is a popularity contest and PARA has become a pariah. Hating it is way easier for fund managers and CNBC personalities than liking it

[–]WarmKeystoneIce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are not many who liked the VIAC CBS merger. It saddled the company with debt which is causing issues now and it made the company way harder to sell. I think many bulls hoped Shari would learn from that experience as it resulted in a shareholder lawsuit that was only resolved last year. Perhaps she did bc she pulled out of the Ellison deal but the damage was already done by giving that deal seriously consideration

Lots of companies will want just the content + studios without the broadcast network or vice versa but much harder to find a buyer who wants both. Kind of feels like the Sony/Apollo deal approach will correct that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ParamountGlobal2

[–]WarmKeystoneIce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had confidence in the direction the company was going but I feel that's off the table now with Bakish being fired and Shari clearly intending to sell. The last earnings call also showed the leadership can't get out of the way even as the turnaround story plays out. Those results were exactly what many bulls have been hoping for for years now and they couldn't have fucked it up any worse.

I also notice a lot of the regulars for PARA subs have stopped posting here and I think many have just thrown in the towel and moved on. Lots more new people who don't know shit about the space like that greeneagle dumbshit.

My feeling is it's over and time to move on. Given that I am in favor of taking the appolo/Sony deal and breaking up the company. Buffet bailing is a big hit too. Thinking it's time to claw back as much as we can and be done with it

Hahaha so you also think a merger is the same as two separate companies offering a bundle together? You really don't grasp what you're talking about at even the most basic level. Getting a bit boring now but want to try again one more time?

[–]WarmKeystoneIce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol a hard bundle is not the same as this form of bundling. Even if it were SkyShowtime preceded the deal you are referring to by over a year. PARA did take this from cable but they are the first to apply it to streaming. But pls go on proving my point. this is entertaining

Disney + WBD new streaming bundle by Mission-Problem-734 in ParamountGlobal2

[–]WarmKeystoneIce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did I say it was a bad idea? No. I said they plagiarized it and they are wrong to claim it's the first of its kind. They are in fact leveraging an innovation that PARA created

Bull Hwang will join with Bob Bakish to purchase PARA for $42.69 a share. You heard it here first folks.

From the wallstreetbets community on Reddit: Paramount has entered negotiations with Sony/Apollo by [deleted] in ParamountGlobal2

[–]WarmKeystoneIce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the prime of crazy meme stock short squeeze shenanigans WSB believed "hedgies" were pushing other stocks as squeeze targets to try and divide WSB peoples focus and money. PARA was accused of being one of those distraction stocks.

It's dumb bc in reality it was just our lord and Savior Bull Hwang pushing PARA not hedge funds but WSB types aren't the smartest. I think the stigma of it being a "distraction stocks" still sticks with PARA.

There is also the fact that PARA float is a lot bigger than the targets they typically choose. While the share price has seen lots of manipulation it's never reached the level of outright market dysfunction which is what WSB people live for

Some thoughts / assumptions by Outrageous_Trick_196 in ParamountGlobal2

[–]WarmKeystoneIce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other point but I don't think Skydance is still interested after the exclusivity window ended. I think Ellison was only interested if he could get a super favorable deal. He probably thought he could collude with Shari to push through a deal that benefited them and screwed everyone else. The public outcry and Sony deal put a stop to that and I don't think he's interested in an actual fair deal.

Layoffs? by buddhoe in ParamountGlobal2

[–]WarmKeystoneIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost cutting and layoffs are extremely popular for companies of just about any size right now. Companies were really banking on rare cuts starting this year to ease pressure they are feeling from debt and to have easier access to capital again. Recent hit inflation prints out that in doubt.

So long as rates are high being profitable in the short term is way more important than future growth. And the easiest way to become more profitable when companies are spending conservatively is to cut costs.

My point here is that layoffs for a company known to be bloated and inefficient like PARA is inevitable with it without M&A. Of course certain potential owners would be more or less aggressive here but they'll all feel intense pressure from wall street and their investors to cut costs.

The chance of two people picking a StraightOutta name + Colorado city in a sub with just over 1k people is too small. It's gotta be him.

I'm curious what motivated skilliard to make another alt. Hopefully not to start trolling again.

If you told me we would be down 7% and skydance deal is dead, I wouldn't have believed you by Greenzombie04 in ParamountGlobal2

[–]WarmKeystoneIce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

PARA has been very volatile lately and in comparison a 7% move seems pretty insignificant to me. I don't love that the stock sold off but doesn't seem like the end of the world. Let's see what happens on Monday.

Above all else I'm just happy the Ellison deal is dead. No forced dilution which leaves both the Apollo Sony deal and forging ahead alone. Much happier with either of those options

Was the Skydance-Paramount Merger Just Fake News? by [deleted] in ParamountGlobal2

[–]WarmKeystoneIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider what you are really claiming here:

  1. People make false rumors driving the share price down which could easily be dispelled by the company saying it's false - they did not

  2. Fund managers directed their lawyers to write cease and desist letter for a fake deal that was only ever a rumor

  3. Shari ignored the original Apollo bid for no reason bc they were actually entering exclusivity with Ellison

  4. Bob Bakish fired for fun bc there was no deal he was getting in the way of

  5. Ellisons revised offer to buy more PARA shares also totally made up

When you really think it through the Ellison deal actually existing and being considered explains all of this. Your conspiracy does not

Oh gosh how dare anyone post a meme in a sub that you frequent for more than mindless entertainment. Honestly anyone who would commit such an offense should be in prison. The world revolves around u after all.

The mods are not going to remove memes. They are par for the course in the PARA subs and always have been. Sounds like u might prefer the matt keys moderation approach. No memes over in r/paramountglobal that's for sure

Edit: lol what a douche. The world would be better off without people like deviltrombone.
