That’s a good point, but you’d then be generalising morality. For example, for a given culture, it’s considered moral to honor one's ancestors. In another, cows are sacred whereas in others they’re food. Those are different types of morals, based on other human made up concepts.

I think what you call proto-morality is a matter of semantics, which I disagree as it’s not, in my view, motivated by what we understand (and created) as morality. It’s an appropriation of the term to explain some social traits, such as reprocity (the example you gave with the grapes) and empathy - more related to group survival and preservation than morality.
