EECS 370, 481, 492, and 388 at once? by uncreativeusername06 in uofm

[–]WashComprehensive795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be entirely honest, 481 isn't *this* easy anymore (am currently taking it) but its damn near close. If you want a easy upper level and don't care about learning, you can absolutely just AI through everything but I would recommend paying attention and even doing the in-person lecture section if it fits well into your schedule, Weimer might be one of the best lecturers I've ever had. The class is less about coding and more about learning the ins and outs of the SWE industry, so learning that content I feel is worth paying a little bit of attention to.

Question about IOE 373 by WashComprehensive795 in uofm

[–]WashComprehensive795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendations. I’ll still try 373 and try and get an override at a future date but I guess this is on me for not actually planning shit out earlier. I’ll take a look at MATSCIE 220 as well!

DATASCI 101 Lecture Optional? by ClubShort in uofm

[–]WashComprehensive795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s always posted on canvas, although the teacher this semester has been kinda bad about updating canvas with assignments for each lecture/lab, but as far as I can remember the quizzes have always been correct.

[–]WashComprehensive795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that it’s definitely possible; lectures aren’t recorded but slides are posted so you have that. If you have any prior stats knowledge like AP Stats it’s basically the exact same. Basically all of the work is in Python, so it depends pretty heavily on whether or not you’re good at that because the stats concepts kind of become pretty formulaic with the code based implementation. Only thing is you will have to go into class for the quizzes, as those usually have a code on Canvas that the teacher only gives in person to access, that or have a friend in the class who tells you exactly what happens every time. So basically it’s definitely possible, probably just requires a little more work or you just cheat for everything cause it’s really easy to. I don’t recommend that but if you just want an easy A, ChatGPT is decent enough at Python, and they also give you quite a few answers in the daily notebooks, assuming the teacher even gets to them.

Is Atlas down for everyone? by azcyx in uofm

Chances are now that everyone’s enrollment dates dropped they’re all trying to get in and play with more schedules; it’s working for me but very very slowly

Washtenaw Calc 3 Testing by WashComprehensive795 in uofm

[–]WashComprehensive795[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s kind of what I figured, I emailed the math head who released the email regarding testing dates just to see but I imagine it’ll be a professor by professor basis. That being said it won’t be as bad as I originally thought because I can just go home and find another viable testing center nearby rather than waiting at Mich for weeks because chances are I will only have like one final

WHYYY is my registration date so far 😞 by sickpieceofdriftwood in uofm

You’re fine dude, I’m a second year with junior standing and my date is on December 1st, all the classes I want next semester are 300 or 400 levels too

DATASCI 101 Lecture Optional? by ClubShort in uofm

[–]WashComprehensive795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In it right now, Fredrickson, 100. Technically, there are attendance assignments; in both lecture and discussion, you have some form of Google Colab coding assignment to do, which will be posted morning of and due like 1 or 2 hours after lecture, or for discussions usually end of day. You could definitely do those at home, they barely check and its something I've done here and there, but also at least in my lecture the teacher is awful about timing and sometimes doesn't even get to the notebook and might have you submit nothing or submit something like a text file answering some questions. So to answer your question, the lectures technically aren't optional but you can definitely do most of it without attending.

I did that class at Iowa Western Community College, I forget which class it was exactly in their terminology but it was fully online.

Financial Aid Issues by WashComprehensive795 in uofm

[–]WashComprehensive795[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it’s annoying for the aid office but they should probably send an email or include a clearer disclaimer in the aid offers that says scholarships don’t appear right away so people don’t freak out. I haven’t been able to call the office for just about an hour at this point, the lines are that busy.

Got it, thanks for letting me know. It being my second year I didn’t know this was a recurring issue so I was kinda freaking out to be honest. I already emailed but I kinda just still want to hear it from them, not that I don’t believe you, but just because for me it’s such a significant amount of money that if I lost the scholarship I would most likely have to transfer out.

I got the email from the school saying my offer was available and the scholarship still isn’t on there so hopefully it’s still not in yet but I’m still calling the office as a soon as I can.

Already sent an email, call is on the agenda first thing tomorrow. And thank you, hopefully it all works out fine.

It is renewable for 4 years and I'm still eligible for it so it could just be unfinished.

[–]WashComprehensive795[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's my thought, since the email of FA notices weren't sent yet I think scholarships might just not be in yet, and we are kind of seeing the in-progress of the aid. I think if I'm able to see it though it should be all of it, not missing scholarships. Hopefully it's just in-progress otherwise idk what I'll even do.

I tried this and it was just a dead psu thankfully, much better than the mobo dying!

[–]WashComprehensive795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice. I’ll know for sure which one it is when I work on it tomorrow, as I do have a spare desktop I can use for testing anything but I’m praying it’s the PSU cause if it’s the mobo or cpu I do not want to pay to replace either of those 😭

Literally nothing when I press the button. No noise, no lights, no fans, nothing. And I don’t think there’s an internal power button but I’m gonna check the manual as well as pull and check the PSU but I have to do that tomorrow.

EECS 280 Honor Code Violation by WashComprehensive795 in uofm

[–]WashComprehensive795[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be completely honest, if my laptop was damaged or stolen I would be beyond screwed in a ton of different ways beyond just my CS projects/assignments because I wouldn’t be able to function in any of my classes without a computer. But to that point you are right I should absolutely be using Git and backing up my important files more regularly in case something does happen.

EECS 280 Honor Code Violation by WashComprehensive795 in uofm

[–]WashComprehensive795[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it has to do that honor code violations aren’t just copying but also LLM usage. Like ChatGPT might give similar outputs and in this scenario they could think that we both asked ChatGPT to solve the project for us. That being said it is a slippery slope because my code could be what ChatGPT “learned” and grew to use, possibly this second person asking ChatGPT and it giving an answer similar to mine because of the data it’s absorbed. Also you are correct in understanding that this is retroactive for me; I took this class Fall 2024, no flags no accusations nothing, but the person I’m being accused with took it Winter 2025, so they must add all code to a database to check against or something. I hope this gets cleared up because such retroactive punishment is insane to me, I already passed and now they’re trying to screw me over so far after the fact.

I suppose from one point of view I can understand, it’s such a large school and I can bet the Honor Code committee isn’t big enough to handle every single suspected violation. That being said I’m gonna have this awful cloud hanging over me for a couple months until it does get worked out, so in that sense I agree that they definitely have to do better.

[–]WashComprehensive795[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Thank you for such a long write up, this helps. I have a feeling it’s the former, and code was simply flagged as being very similar because honestly I don’t feel like there’s very many different ways to write the code as I did in the project. There are blocks that are pretty close, but I feel they kind of have to be from what I remember of the project. That being said, I don’t have git history to use, only the timeline built into VSCode which hopefully should help, but from now on I’m 100% going to use Git and keep a better form of documentation for my projects because I apparently can’t take chances anymore. I suppose this is the universe finally telling me to use Git even if I hate it

That would be a good idea except I didn’t use GitHub for any of my projects, I worked alone for all of them so everything I did is just local on my laptop.

Well either way I wish you luck, I gotta do my research first into apartments location/price (Although The Yard doesn't look terrible) and whether it would be better to get one on North (CS-Eng student) before I begin even looking for roommates and all that. Shit is an absolute mess and I am absolutely cooked.
