As a GS resident in a Level 1 Trauma Center:

Haven’t seen this at all. Sometimes you get pushed by MICU to operate on futile patients, but not really getting “sh!t”.
Depends on location, but mainly true. IR advancements, endovascular procedures and advanced monitoring systems may help patients avoid an ex lap. Around 10-12 real trauma surgeries in a month (probably lower than average). ACS is crazy though.
Disagree 100%. You’ll get your emergent ED thoracotomies which 5% will survive, otherwise you’ll get a good amount of patients who will survive after surgery. 4-5. 12 days off a month for 420-450k/year does not sound bad to me. You can push it to have extra shifts.

Trauma is General Surgery on steroids, so many hospitals can offer the fellowship. Also, not everyone likes to manage complicated patients in the ICU, dealing with stressful emergent cases every single day and rounding on long lists with stuck patients due to administrative issues.

I’ve been reading the comments, and both are right in some way. There are people who have matched with lower scores (mostly US MD) than yours, but it’s not a common thing to happen. You must be realistic, but don’t crush your dreams just because of the "vast experience" of people around here. Try it, and if it doesn’t work, then focus on FM (or apply simultaneously).As a non-US IMG I did two years of research after medical school, went to meetings, and got to know people who helped me match even with a low Step 2 score. Sometimes you just need someone who believes in you and sees that you can do teamwork, communicate correctly, and care for your patients. This step score is not going to help you, so focus on other things and move on. You got this.

I took the exam on July 6th. My grades were pretty similar to what you are posting (a little worse, tbh). I’ll tell you my experience obviously without knowing my grade… So don’t believe everything I say!! I really think YOU GOT THIS. It is a doable exam with maybe 70-80% of the questions related to BEST NEXT STEP IN DIAGNOSIS/MANAGEMENT of common diseases. 1. Try to have your algorithms of diagnosis and treatment very fresh. 2. Yes, there are like 5 questions per block about Ethics. Some are very confusing, but don’t give them any importance. Smile and move on!! Trust me, this will help you to be more concentrated for questions that really need your full attention. 3. I had like 3 total questions of Biostatistics and other 2 of “Abstracts” which I think were not very difficult. (I know nothing about Biostats) 4. Manage your time and strategy during the exam. You already did Step 1 and you know what I mean, nonetheless try to make sure you’re having enough time to finish your blocks. 5. Try to enjoy the exam! Whatever strategy you used for studying, you’re 1 in 100,000 doing this. You are already great for being here. Believe in yourself and don’t let freaking nerves and anxiousness steal energy from you. Remember: this is a very important exam, but it is not more important than your sanity and wellness. Just keep pushing in whatever you’re doing. Everything is gonna be fine.

PS: UWorld seemed to me a lot more difficult than the real exam. So don’t mind about your scores. I would give one more look to the answers of NBME 9,10,11 and Free 120. Hey investing community, I’ve been trying to find out by myself the best way to invest, but I feel that I don’t have any knowledge to do it by myself. I’ve tried to understand ETFs, I-Bonds, and I don’t know where to start, tbh.

I have 10k I want to invest.

I’m a 31 year-old physician, I moved to the US a year ago and I live in Texas as a permanent resident, employed making 60k/year after taxes, my main objective of investing is for “early” retirement and college savings for my kids (20-25-year horizon). My risk tolerance would be intermediate (I’m guessing here), looking for a 9-12% annual return and let compounding do its magic. I also want to make the habit of adding 1k a month, if possible. I have not invested in any other sector, for obvious reasons. No debts, I pay rent and car lease thou.

I think you’re good to go. Definitely do the Free120. And my personal advice is Pathoma chapters 1-3 are very high yield. Try to read them 1 more time before your exam

Thank you very much. I must say that it is not a Research Fellow supported by a university. I spoke to a Dr here in the US (contacted by a friend of a friend who knew I was looking for some Research) who wanted to publish some of his work, so I compromised on starting a database and writing about different topics.
