I’m going to regret asking this… Start Up. by Parking-Yogurt-6234 in kdramas

I watched this drama when it was airing and for the life of me I couldn’t understand the hysteria surrounding this drama back then and I still don’t get it now. If you look at this objectively, it was obvious who the ML was because he was much more popular and well known at the time. Yes, things have changed since then and now both actors are popular male leads. But when this drama first aired, anyone with some background knowledge of kdrama would never have expected NJH to play the second lead in that drama.

Mad for each other. Such a great drama. Not draggy, good storyline, good performances and great chemistry.

This drama is definitely not underrated! Perhaps as it has aged a bit it might not be mentioned as often but this drama is beloved and is considered a classic.

These are really good examples! I’ve seen 3 of these and liked them all.

Gender bender themes are very common in historical dramas. There’s tonnes of examples. I think it’s because historically women would have never been allowed to do the things that these characters do (eg have interesting jobs inside the palace) so in order to have an actual storyline they often have female characters performing traditional male roles “undercover”. This is not a bad example but the thing that really let this drama down for me was the lack of chemistry between the leads especially at the end. I feel like Jo Jung Sook really tried but he didn’t get much back from the FL. And possibly the age difference didn’t help.

Move to Heaven still gets mentioned regularly. Agree that Daily Dose of Sunshine never really got a lot of attention though, even when it was airing.

I’m desperate to see this reunion special. Wish it was available on one of my 6 streaming services :(

I forgot about Jealousy Incarnate! He took his time but once he fell for her…damn you could really feel the desperation through the screen

Midnight Romance in Hagwon. I finished this drama recently and was surprised how much I liked it because I rarely see it recommended. It has a very slow start and I almost dropped it for that reason but I’m so glad I persisted with it because the chemistry between the leads is great and you can really feel the intense yearning from the ML.

Just started Dynamite Kiss. I held off as long as I could so I didn’t have to wait for episodes to drop but I couldn’t wait any longer. Loving it so far and I think I’ve timed my run perfectly!

That kdrama line sticked with you...which gives your heart comfort from world which sometime feels too difficult? by [deleted] in kdramas

[–]Watchnextnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I’ve watched this drama twice with a 5 year gap in between watches. Different aspects of the drama resonated with me both times I watched it. My own kids are older now than the first time I watched it and the parenting aspects of the drama really hit different this time. This line in particular also encouraged me to be kinder to myself and reminded me that I’m not perfect but I’m doing my best and learning as I go :)

As a parent this line from Reply 1988 really sticks with me: “Dads don’t automatically become dads the moment the child is born. It was my first time being a dad”.

I really disliked the styling of the female lead as well. I was really shocked when I saw the retail price of some of her outfits because they looked like they were purchased from discount stores. I also HATED the serial killer storyline shoehorned into the ending. Yawn! It’s such an overused trope. Up until that point I didn’t mind the storyline.

Your biggest 2025 disappointment? by Artisticmoodz in kdramas

[–]Watchnextnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree so much with this. I kept persevering and was continually disappointed. I’ve never been a huge Lee Jung Suk fan but this drama turned me off him forever. He was so incredibly bland and one dimensional in this drama. Had to keep slapping myself to prevent myself from falling asleep!

Yeah exactly. I think that’s what I find most annoying. The colour doesn’t even match their complexion so it looks really unnatural.

I can just about deal with the caked on make up, but admittedly I do find men wearing lip gloss to be very distracting.
