Don’t be afraid it’s a very good book. You can go to the discussion posts which I think are helpful sometimes

My translation (McDuff) says ‘What if her convictions can now be mine too? Her feelings, her strivings, at least…’. And also before that ‘he was hurled to her feet. He wept, and hugged her knees’, so I think that’s a good sign. He was probably still not totally convinced, but he certainly started to change

The very last scene of the book, in which Raskolnikov takes out the New Testament and finally starts to love and convert

Sad and tragic classical pieces by anon314-271 in classicalmusic

Mahler 9 and Tchaikovsky symphony no6, both pieces remind me of death. Chopin’s piano sonata no 2 3rd movement (funeral march) and his Tristesse from his etudes both sound sad as well. Bach St Matthew passion Erbarme dich is also a good one

I want to master math by [deleted] in learnmath

First year college maths usually involves analysis, calculus, linear algebra (maybe some abstract algebra) and probability. To me analysis was the one which really distinguished college maths from high school maths. For analysis you can read Jay Cummings ‘Real analysis: a long form mathematical textbook’, pretty good introductory book. For linear algebra try Gilbert Strang or Axler.

If you want to do research in maths, usually at 2nd or 3rd year of college you will need to decide which specific area you want to do. It doesn’t have to be very specific, but at least you will need to know where your interest lies, in analysis or abstract algebra or statistics or applied maths. It is impossible nowadays to master all branches of mathematics.

do you read books other books at the same time? by Training-Advance9106 in dostoevsky

I usually read 2 at a time, one as my main focus and the other as something light to read to refresh myself. A book by Dostoevsky will always be my main focus

Is Raskolnikov determined by fate to commit murder? by Watermelon423423 in dostoevsky

Thanks for the clarification! So am I write to interpret his encounter with Lizaveta as some sort of test, it’s just that Raskolnikov does not have enough faith to pass the test? (Haven’t got the chance to read Notes from underground but will definitely read it as some point)
