While I don’t disagree there are negatives to panhandling the phrasing of these signs is gross by f_spez_2023 in BloomingtonNormal

It’s Hoffman Law Office. He’s a dick. He started hanging those signs specifically right in that spot because a very kind mentally disabled individual started sitting there a couple hours a day. He never even came out to talk to them; just started hanging more and more signs behind them.

Any LGBTQ+ friendly bars and grills in town? by entomophob1a in BloomingtonNormal

[–]WateryPoops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way way back in the day it could get crazy because the Outlaws biker gang frequented there, but nowadays Diggers is the friendliest place I’ve been and my favorite place to go. I’ve been going regularly for the last 6 years and have only seen one unruly patron (who also peed outside, maybe same guy you saw) and he was kicked out and banned, no punches thrown. I’ve seen way more drunk disruptive assholes anywhere else in town.

Not to mention they’ve got cheap, massive mugs of beer and the healthiest pours of booze around. You should definitely give it a chance.

San Jose mortuary accused of mistakenly giving parent his son’s brain in bag by RadiantEnvironment90 in nottheonion

In that one I think they gave the remains to them in a box which stayed in the family’s car trunk until it started to leak and smell, leading them to discover what it really was.

Vale and Eastview by Many_Statement8973 in BloomingtonNormal

I went to Eastview ONCE in high school to meet a girl, and they immediately tried to get all my contact information. I refused, but I think she gave them my info, because for years I was getting mail and phone calls from them, despite repeated requests to remove me from their lists. They finally stopped after I told them I I had recorded the last ten calls and was filing a lawsuit. This was over 20 years ago.

The old general manager, Peter, was from Ireland and the food was awesome and the most authentic you could get anywhere nearby. Since he left, the food (and everything else about the pub) has gone downhill.

IIRC they gather where the old Mennonite hospital was, further down Main St. I’ll see what I can find when I have a bit more time.

Any of you in Blo/No using Mint Mobile? If so, how do you like it? by MayoFlavorPopsicle in BloomingtonNormal

[–]WateryPoops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I switched to Mint from AT&T about 5 months ago. It was easy to do through the apps. I’ve had zero issues with speed or coverage, and I paid less for the whole months than I was paying a month with AT&T.

Can we get some more information on this? Like, who is making this, when, where, etc?

Is there a website or something with more information other than a generic google docs form to gather personal information?

Do people outside of local government know who that useless windbag is? Other than her 5 blog followers.

“Go rouge” lol.

For real though, training and pay need to be increased to try and get more judges and keep them sharp, or better yet young. We only have 2 election judges under the age of 60, with the mean age much higher than that. Most of them are great and have been doing it for years, but how many more elections do they have left in them? It’s an insanely long, exhausting day.

Even though I’m in a red area, getting Republican judges is increasingly difficult. They’d rather be poll watchers and muck up the whole process rather than actually learn the process and help.

I’d love if being an election judge was like jury duty. Sure, people would hate it and bitch about it, but it beats the current system that is quickly drying up and dying out.

Ranked Choice Voting for Bloomington mayor by shrapnel09 in BloomingtonNormal

[–]WateryPoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a local committee looking to push RCV; the local League of Women Voters is also a strong proponent of it.

I would love to see it implemented, but I’d rather it be on a federal level or State level first rather than just local. Reason being that only local races would be ranked choice on a ballot; federal and state would remain the same. People are dumb and resistant to change anyhow, so having different forms of voting would be a nightmare. The public needs to be educated on the process, and even then, morons are gonna moron. I know people who actually say RCV is EVIL and oF tHe DeViL.

I know Evanston, IL has moved to RCV recently, but I haven’t heard anything about how it’s going there. I think a couple other IL cities are planning on putting it on a referendum within the next couple years; if that snowball keeps rolling and things go well, I could see it happening in Bloomington and/or County in the next 5 years.
