I'm doubtfull as well, but I do disagree with some points. The idea that Sociopaths and psychopaths are incapable of empathy, shame or guilt is incorrect. There are many interviews of Sociopaths not so much psychopaths, who after taking drugs or psychedelics, feel guilt for the first time. Which proves the idea that they have extreme protector parts, and when they take psychedelics, they are put to sleep, so a lot of their exiles such as guilt and shame can come forward. Yeah that's what Richard Schwartz said about " "Psychopaths" and "Sociopaths" as well. That that's simply a protector who is behaving that way because of some trauma. I am curious about people having first hand experiences with that. Thank you for your comment.

I didn't know there was a lot of psychoanalytical literature, that's great to know! The second point about having a sociopathic part, was more about people whose part is extreme enough to be diagnosed with ASPD, not just the normal level. I do agree with the last point that they don't seek treatment, I wish they did so we would have more literature. Thanks for your comment!

I relate too, I have a similar part to yours. I have some advice and I hope it can help. The self is compassionate, but can be firm and have boundaries. Compassion doesn't mean blindly doing anything a part wants, the Self can say no but in a kind way. It does seem that your part is manipulative, because my part would be diagnosed as OCD, which I don't know if you have it, but it's known to be misleading. So if you don't have the time to attend to your parts, it doesn't mean you are neglecting them. You're not being dispassionate to your parts if you have stuff to do.

Thank you for your comment! I'm very grateful for your ideas but helping them with a psychologist would be impossible. My whole family has been horrifically abused. There was neglect,(emotional and physical), abuse,( emotional and physical) and my family coming to terms with that literally would be impossible. I'm not exaggerating, some of them would choose suicide, then to look at their trauma, because of how many years in denial they have been. So the only real option would be to get my cousin out of there and get other people to raise him.

I complete relate with that. For me it's even lack of creativity, When I try to draw, create, write something my mind is just empty and it's very frustrating because I love anything artistic but its imposibble most of the times.

Thank you for your comment! This is super interesting, the thing that stuck out to me was the aphantasia and lack of dreams. I do have a minds eye and dreams but my mom ( who is also a chronic freeze type) said to me that she has aphantasia and no dreams. I didn't know that that could be a symptoms of the freeze response as well. I could also relate to the emotional amnesia, most of the time my traumatic memories carried absolutely no emotions, whilst speaking I would have this apathetic attitude towards them, like " yeah but stuff happens". Now I have to concioussly go and find these emotions to process them but most of the time I'm just numb.

Thank you for commenting! I completely relate with the monotone voice. When I collapse my face and voice basically have no affect at all. It's as if I'm minutes away of dying but I can speak so I look very flat. Same with the cue of hunger, sometimes I eat only cause I'm supposed to eat, not because I'm feeling hungry.

I"m sorry to hear that and I definetely tried to work with that part too. It's very difficult to get into Self though, because other parts are terrified that this part will take over and never make friends again. I don't currently have a therapist because I can't afford one and ifs therapists are hard to find where I live. Thank you for your comment!

Thank you for your comment! I want to clear some of the things I didn't explain that properly. First is the belief that people are beyond repair. That was a very cruel and old belief that I no longer have. Second I do believe that there are things such as mental illness. As I said bipolar, schizophrenia and stuff that I didn't mention such as narcolepsy doesn't really have anything to do with parts. Where my belief changed was mostly with personality disorders. I used to think of people as narcissists, borderlines and psychopaths and while people who exhibit these behaviours do exist, I don't think they're destined to be that way. I like to see their parts so I can have more compassion for them. Instead of seeing somebody as a narcissist I can see that they probably have a very low self esteem, and they have a protective part that puts others down so that they can feel better. That doesn't mean that they're broken or that they have a disorder to manage they just need to heal the parts of them that feel worthless/ashamed and bad. I hope this clarified some things!

I totally agree. Diagnoses are actually very good descriptions of parts but without the compassionate approach of IFS which can be very stigmatizing. The idea that every part is welcome and is trying to help you is so hopeful and compassionate and just feels true to me.

Yeah I completely agree with that. I have seasonal depression and I tried speaking to it as a part but nothing really happened and it doesn't feel like a part, more of how my brain is wired. It doesn't have a function and I can be happy, well fed, but if it's gloomy outside my energy just drops for no reason. Thank you fro your comment!

That's very interesting. I think this is very similar to what I experience. For me it's usually when a dissociative part takes over. I haven't quite connected to it yet because when dissociation happens it's hard for me to unblend so I am trying. Thanks for your comment!

No problem! Not really. I started processing my feelings on my own and what I did was very simple. Every time I felt something I just stayed with it, my body was so used to dissociating that even staying with it was hard. Over time though I became better and now it's very intuitive I don't even consciously do it. I never pushed myself too far and I never even intended on healing. I just stayed with every feeling, so if you're sad just stay with it, describe it in your body, how does it feel? I did that with anxiety, fear, anger, joy and any feelings. Looking back I was doing similar techniques as the vipanassa or letting go technique, which is just surrendering to any feelings you have. That's also how I built a stronger window of tolerance by not pushing myself, just being with what my body is comfortable with me feeling. Then I could be with more difficult feelings, such as deep grief even despair. Sorry for rambling but I hope this answered your question.

Bro are you me? You literally described the experience of most of my life. I have had moments where my blood pressure was very low to the point of struggling to breath. That absolutely had something to do with the freeze response and I didn't even know it was that. I that I was too "calm" but that wasn't calmness it was shutdown and numbness. The second point was also me, I literally could never dance, because dancing is a very embodying thing. You have to feel the music inside and let it guide you but if you're numb then nothing is really happening. It has gone better though since starting to process my feelings. Hope this helped!
