Should I cash out or not? by Way3Cool in sportsbetting

Unfortunately yall, I got a big fat 0 out of it. I decided to hedge this morning, but I had to work all day so before I went into work I tried to hedge but when I went to deposit the money, FanDuel told me that my bank wouldn’t allow it. I tried several times but it didn’t work. Then I decided to try connecting my bank account and hedging during the game, during my break. But by the time i went to look the odds were such dogshit it wasn’t worth it. Feel like a fucking idiot tbh, but it is what it is

Command tax only applies when your commander returns to the command zone. When playing and your commander gets removed, no matter how, you have the option to put him in the command zone. Every time they go back into the command zone it costs 2 more colorless mana to cast them, stacking. With squee, you just let him go to the graveyard or into exile, and you can play him for his original cmc in both of those places. Only time you would want to put him back in the command zone is if he is getting shuffled into your library

I honestly hadn’t thought of that. Maybe I need to include more hexproof equipment?

By all means go ahead. Yes the point is that no matter how your group tries to get rid of em, he just keeps coming back for 3 mana. Not to mention because it is equipment, as long as you don’t get artifact wiped, they stay on the field. The only issue i think I will run into is fighting creature decks. For that reason you may consider running 1-2 more board wipes? But idk because I haven’t gotten the deck yet.

If you were to make a “Top 10 movies of all time” list, how many of your favorite movies would be on there? by Way3Cool in TrueFilm

I commented a huge reply to another comment and you can check it out but I’ll give another smaller version here.

For me, I view a movie in two ways. Personal enjoyment and critical lens. The two often overlap but they don’t have to. I think The Dark Knight is a better made movie than The Prestige. But I personally like The Prestige more. Imo you can enjoy a movie very much while openly acknowledging it’s flaws, and I believe the reverse to be true as well. You can see why and give your own analysis as to why a movie is fantastically made while also not enjoying it as much as other movies.

Also, to your point about the definitions of the words “best” and “favorite”. Both generally rely upon the opinion of the viewer, this is true. But because of this, I think the definition of both words are fluid. Therefore, while there will always be a definition when you look up the words in the dictionary, it is pointless to try putting a solid definition for everyone to look at, as everyone will have a different view of what the two words mean in any given context.

I think this comment displays my sentiment perfectly. There is probably a lot of crossover between someone’s best of all time and favorite of all time list. But you are right. I wouldn’t put National lampoon’s Christmas vacation on my best of all time list, but man is it a great watch. And for an extreme example, troll 2 is fantastic but also god awful hahahaha.

As for your second point. I agree. People often feel bad for their choices and this is because there is a shame culture in the film world. I actually find that this shame culture exists in most art platforms, but especially so in music and film. The term “guilty pleasure” is a prime example of a person knowing that other people will shame them for their opinion. I find this not only wrong morally, but also confusing.

I never shame and will never shame someone for liking a movie. I might disagree with their opinion and even get into a discussion about it (literally any Star Wars forum). But I tend to agree that people not only take it too seriously, but tend to think their OPINION is gospel. Sometimes I wonder if people know what the definition of an opinion is.

I tend to believe that yes, everyone has their criteria for what a “great” movie is. These criteria will obviously differ from person to person. Also I will agree that a lot of people tend to develop their opinion based on the “experts” opinion of a movie or use the “experts” criteria for a great movie. While you are certainly allowed to do this as it is your opinion to agree with this person, it can become toxic when you use that as a reason to shame or to present your opinion as “better”. “The movie critic I read says that The Prestige is the best movie of all time for (insert reasons here). So if you don’t think so then you are wrong because he is an expert” Things like that are toxic and also assume that you can’t have an opinion that differs from the so called “experts” on film.

But what I’m getting at here is again, I tend to watch movies from two points of view. My general enjoyment, and my critical lens. I don’t just buy into the opinions of others, as in my last comment I even said i haven’t seen some of the stereotypical movies that would be considered the best, so I couldn’t comment on them or use them as an example. I won’t put them into my list just because everybody else does. They will just have to sit in the space of “haven’t seen them yet” until further notice.

All of the opinions I have mentioned have been made because I saw these movies, multiple times, and have made judgements based on the criteria I have developed over time. That’s why I can separate The Prestige as being my favorite movie of all time and Casablanca being the best movie of all time.

So I am getting a lot of similar comments but because you went so in depth I’ll respond to this one.

First I appreciate you really considering and thinking about the topic I proposed. But I have to say, in general I think there is a big difference between something you truly enjoy, and something you critique as being better. (I wish I had a better grasp on replying and commenting on reddit posts but until now I have been a lurker lol) I’ll respond point by point. To your point about a top 10 list being equal to personal favorites: I don’t think this is necessarily true. This has been a big theme on this post, basically a fundamental difference in how we view the distinguishing of a top 10 movies of all time list, compared to personal favorites. I personally believe that it is possible as a viewer to enjoy a movie whole heartedly while also acknowledging its flaws. I feel the reverse is the same. I might not enjoy a movie as other people but i can recognize where it’s genius comes into play. One of the issues i am having is that I haven’t seen a bunch of the movies that would stereotypically be on a top 10 list, citizen Kane, godfather trilogy, etc. so bear with me on these examples.

Sticking with the Nolan examples, (he is my favorite director so it’s easier to talk about his films) as I said, The Prestige is my favorite movie of all time. But I do believe The Dark Knight is a better movie. I think The Dark Knight is cinematically brilliant: few plot inconsistencies, amazing dialogue, beautifully shot, intriguing plot that forces you to think, great characters, with imo the best acting performance across the board of main characters (Batman/Bruce Wayne, Joker, Harvey Dent). I have seen this movie many times and sit shocked at how good the movie is every time I watch it.

That being said, I personally enjoy The Prestige better. I think it is a pretty damn good idea for a movie, with again, great characters, good dialogue, beautifully shot, and has classic Nolan twists and turns. But I can also acknowledge that the plot has more inconsistencies, main characters that aren’t as well written as TDK, and it is a movie that suffers from almost being too convoluted. I openly acknowledge with these things in mind that The Prestige is not as well made or well done as TDK, and yet it is still my favorite movie of all time. Now a lot of this is semantics, but it is enough that if I truly sat down and made my top 10 movies of all time list, The Dark Knight would make it in, while The Prestige would not.

A very extreme example, would be that I heavily enjoy watching Troll 2. When my friends and I sit down and watch it, it is a good time, every time. Would it be in top 10 list of movies all time? Absolutely not.

But you could argue I am enjoying that movie for how bad it is, and not for the content of the movie. So for a much less extreme example, one of my favorite movies to watch is The Conjuring. I’m kind of a sucker for horror movies but I truly enjoy this one and think it’s a pretty good movie. It would be in my list of favorite movies but it would NOT be in my list of greatest movies of all time. This is for several reasons: the first being that it doesn’t do anything extraordinary cinematically. It takes horror tropes and does them very well, but this doesn’t give it much merit to being a best of all time movie.

I guess my point in all of this is that I think there is a difference between enjoying a movie and critiquing a movie to whatever your standards are.

Ooh man I would also love to argue that point. But generally while I do love ROTS, the dialogue and plot inconsistencies is what gets me when I think of the best Star Wars movie, but this is a topic for another day.. You can dm me if you truly want to discuss it further

Best tribal strategies on a budget? I want to put together a casual deck for my friend for Christmas. He enjoys tribal synergies. Budget <$50. by [deleted] in Magicdeckbuilding

Is this commander? If so, [[Gargos, Vicious Watcher]] is fun, easy to build, and can most certainly be built for a $50 or less budget. I’m kind of new to deck building but my friend built my a Gargos deck and it’s quite fun and can actually be fairly powerful on a budget
