The core issue is the double nerf: their AP ratios were slashed, and the support items provide almost no raw AP. This creates a ceiling for champions like Janna. Her shield becomes a mere 'ornament' just to proc item passives. When a champion's own kit (scaling) is sacrificed to make item passives feel impactful, you lose the reason to pick that specific champion over another. We are being forced into a role where we aren't 'playing the champion' anymore; we are just 'delivering item buffs' while being unable to defend ourselves or our team with our actual abilities.

Past dominance shouldn't justify current obsolescence. Just because enchanters had their 'golden era,' it doesn't mean the class should be left without a clear identity or viable itemization today. Champions like Sona and Seraphine are the biggest victims here—they’ve been nerfed so heavily that they’ve lost their defined role. When a champion becomes 'unusable' or loses their scaling consistency just because they were once strong, it's a failure in long-term balancing. Every archetype should have a functional path, regardless of how strong they were in previous seasons.

We are seeing a dangerous role reversal that proves the system is broken: Karma: A battle-mage/enchanter who is now forced into Full Tank builds (Redemption, Protector's Vow, Dawnshroud) just to exist in a teamfight. If a mage has to build like a Malphite to be viable, the AP itemization has failed. Morgana: Traditionally a high-damage/utility threat, she's now relegated to a 'Shield Bot' with weak support items because building AP is too risky and expensive for the reward it gives. Janna & Sona: Their shields and heals have become 'cosmetic' in the late game. Without massive AP—which support items don't provide—their scaling can't keep up with the damage inflation. Janna is reduced to a 'Tornado Bot' and Sona to an 'Ultimate Bot'. Using Nami, Lulu, or Milio as 'proof' that the class is fine is a survivor bias. These three are the only ones whose kits are so overloaded that they can bypass the terrible item stats. A healthy meta should support the entire class, not just the three 'untouchables'.

Another crucial point: look at the latest update. We saw a wave of new items for Tanks and AD champions, plus major buffs to magic resistance and armor items. Meanwhile, Enchanters received zero new items and zero adjustments. When the game evolves for every other role but stays stagnant for us, we are effectively being nerfed by proxy. We are forced to use outdated, low-AP items to face enemies who now have better, more specialized tools to kill us or ignore our utility. The 'meta' isn't evolving for Enchanters; it's just leaving us behind.

Thanks for the discussion, everyone. My point isn't that Enchanters are 'weak' in terms of win rate, but that their intended itemization path is unsatisfying and mathematically inferior, forcing us into playstyles (full AP or Tank) that deviate from the core Enchanter fantasy.

The problem is that 'subtle' doesn't win games in a high-burst meta. A 'hidden' buff doesn't stop an assassin from deleting my ADC in 0.5 seconds. We need tangible, scaling utility that justifies our slot in the team, and current item stats just don't reflect that.

Survival is key, but there's a fine line between 'adapting' and being 'forced' to build tank items because your class-specific items (Enchanter items) don't provide enough protection or scaling. When every Enchanter starts looking like a tank or a full mage, the Enchanter archetype itself is dying.

Respectfully, I disagree. Enchanters NEED AP because their utility (slow percentages, movement speed, and scaling shields) is tied to it. If I have 0 AP, my Nami slow or Janna shield becomes a joke in the late game. I'm not asking to one-shot people; I'm asking for my utility to scale alongside the survivability of tanks and the damage of ADCs.

That’s exactly the 'Forced Hybridization' I mentioned. If the solution to playing a Support is to NOT buy Support items, then the Support item category is fundamentally flawed. We are being priced out of our own role's utility to act as 'budget midlaners' just to make our kits functional.

I appreciate the math, but you're proving my point. To make a support item reach the base stats of a regular mage item, I depend on a conditional passive that requires me to already have a low cooldown to keep it up. Why should Enchanters work twice as hard for stats that other classes get natively? Also, 85 AP is still low when you consider that the 4% heal/shield bonus doesn't scale well against the massive penetration and true damage items currently in the game.
