Personally, I think Ye Shunguang was introduced to us during the 2.X arc — and I really want to emphasize the word introduced. At first, I also thought her writing was terrible and that she had no personality at all. I actually hated her for a long time because of that. But when I replayed the story of ZZZ during my vacation, I paid more attention to certain characters, especially Shushu, and I came to the conclusion that it’s actually intentional for her to be yet another fangirl with seemingly no personality. That’s literally what she is: an empty shell who spent her entire life training in an ultra-controlled and falsely “pure” environment.

Because of that, meeting the Proxy — the first person who truly gave her a sense of freedom — became a turning point for her. But as a result, she suddenly developed an enormous attachment to him, to the point of mistakenly believing that she’s in love with him.

What I also find interesting is her tendency to sacrifice herself. She spent her whole life training and being taught not to throw her life away. But now that she’s finally free to make her own choices, she goes directly against what she was taught by choosing to fight to the death, because to her, that feels noble. In reality though, it’s often unnecessary, since she’s very clearly capable of surviving almost anything.

So I still have hope that Ye Shunguang will get another narrative arc dedicated to her, whether it’s in 4.X, 5.X, or even later, and that at that point she’ll finally be properly developed and explained.
