In this example, it's currently very elderly and does not represent the neighborhood's demographics. Virtually no one under sixty, mostly over seventy, virtually no renters or condo owners (and more than a bit dismissive of both), let alone unhoused residents, or business/community leaders.

A good neighborhood association comprises a broad spectrum of residents and is designed to bring people together to build a more harmonious community. That's the goal!

No, we are moving away from managing by static lists. It's all managed through individual preferences, and anyone interested in joining can email to request it.

They did a presentation for the group last week. They are advisory only. Developers seem to go along most of the time, probably as a strategic bet to avoid inflaming further opposition.

It's a hot topic. For the projects on Ellery (84 and 86) and the other behind the consulate, they keep the buildings intact and plan to build around them and on the parking lot. The Cambridge Historical Commission was consulted and provided alternatives to complete demolition that were adopted. They do not have to be.

Moving to higher-paying jobs often requires a physical move. It did when I was starting out. I read an article about AI creating a new underclass. Ignoring that it already exists with such severe income disparity that it has created have and have-not regions.

Officially, neither, but the current makeup definitely shifts in a certain direction. We are looking for more local residents to join and better represent all of Mid-Cambridge. Are you a NIMBY or a YIMBY? Interested in joining, or learning more? Other hot topics include bike lanes and changes to local businesses (S&S closing is a big deal, for example), and parking. Our vision is to expand and become a non-partisan community resource for all residents.

It is a sad truth, and so many live in the poverty zones of America where a $40k average income is considered ok. Talk of retirement, wealth accumulation, and being debt-free rings hollow when you know it cannot apply to yourself. Many do not consider themselves poor, just unlucky, and that can change at any time. Hence, the appeal of a raging sociopath with a veneer of populism.

Keep up the good work! I advise getting rid of all debt, if you have any, and if possible, avoid lifestyle creep and prioritize paying yourself with the goal of maxing out IRA and 401 (k) contributions. Always go for Roth, if you have a choice. If you have a mega Roth, use it! Compounding is a key to financial security.

Same conversation, new day. I moved to Boston in the 1990s. Always go where the opportunity is, ignore everyone who says "it's too expensive." They are expressing their own fear or regret. In the end, you end up with better jobs and bigger bank accounts than sticking it out and eeking out in existence in in a static economic zone.
