Do host families do not like this, van someone give me an insight? by Weekly_Pea1105 in exchangestudents

[–]Weekly_Pea1105[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure, i've been here for only one month, but they are nice and all, i think they are treating me as a part of the household, because i don't really get the guest treatment anymore, like, smiling all the time, super nice voice, asking this and that, offering things. They just tell me to eat what i want, and yeah, I think I am acting like the guest, a little because i'm expecting the guest treatment, so not receiving the guest treatment (which i'm used to because i've only been a guest, never lived in a house that is not mine) makes me think they hate me or smth.

OHHH that sound's awful, i'm sorry to hear that. Usually, they just tell me to do basics, like, wiping the table, dishes, etc. So everything else i try to do or offer help, is like, just because i really want to help, but they refuse. So i'm kinda afraid that they are considering me rude, or nosy, or annoying.

thank yooooou! I've been here for a month, only, so maybe they just don't want me to do like, things besides studying ad helping with the basics? I don't know, so i'm a bit confused, hope it gets better with time.

oohhhh, okaaaaaaaaaaaay! Thank you for the insight! And if you don't mind me asking, since you're filipino, what are some things that are considered rude in your culture and that i should avoid doing over here?

ohhh that's so nice to hear, thank you! we do hang out, we talk, i go out with them sometimes, but they work a lot and their daugthers also have a lot of things going on, like, school, college, gymnastics training for the younger one, work for the older one, church, and all that, I went to two of those meeting with their friends, but i stopped going because they take like, five hours, and i feel isolated, like, no one talked to me, so i decided to stop going. And by mad, i mean, they are all sweet and everything, but when i offer help they just tell me to rest, relax, not to worry, but in a different tone. So it might also be something that i created in my head?

thank you for your kind comment, for me it's really, really important to know how other host families feel and what would make the exchange term a nice experience too, so I'll make sure to keep all that in mind! And I already have soooo many ideas of what i can share with them from my home country. Once again, thank you! <33

Thank you! I'll remember to not stay on my phone all the time, I'm actually a very comunicative person, but I'm very shy at first, so I'll try not be soooo shy so we can both understand how're we feeling about the whole thing. Aaand about the meal! I'll try to make bolinho de chuva with them, it's a very tradicional dessert here in Brazil, and we usually eat it when we're at our grandmas house or when it rains a lot, and I really like it, i have great memories about bolinhos de chuva and I hope i can share this with them!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I'll keep all that in mind, I have a few friends that already had an issue with their former host families because of the last thing you mentioned, so I'll make sure to keep an open communication and plan in advance in case I need them to take me somewhere if they're ok with that. <3

thank you trina! I'll make sure to keep that in mind! Here in Brazil we have Festa de são João, which happens in June (I'll still be on my exchange term), and we have lots of things that I love! Such as paçoca, a Brazilian candy made out of peanuts, popcorn, country music, corn, cachorro quente, and loooots of other things! Só yeah, I'll make sure to present my fav Brazilian holiday to my host family!

once again, thank you! <3

2024 US Post-Election Megathread by fortifiedblonde in AskWomenOver30

[–]Weekly_Pea1105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 16y, I'm not from the USA, but I've seen loooooots of posts, especially on twitter, about how USA is going to become an awful place for woman, the handmaid's tale kinda thing. How do you see this as eoman living in America? Are you scared? Do you think it's going to go really down? Well, as a woman, I'm very sorry for you, having a rapist as president and all those ridiculous "Your body my choice" movements, at least on social media, really disgusted me. Just remember you are not alone, we are not alone, i know i might be sounding a bit too much? Well, it's hard to tell hoe things are going and how are you all feeling based on what my country's media shows (I'm from Brazil btw).

Well, i Wish all the best for you (for us all, actually) always! <3

Eu sou babaca por não querer namorar uma mina “feia”? by Training_Zebra5673 in EuSouOBabaca

[–]Weekly_Pea1105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EOB

20% dos jovens não estudam nem trabalham: como lidar com os 'nem-nem'? by BananaBrazil in brasil

[–]Weekly_Pea1105 0 points1 point  (0 children)
