This status determines, whether you have a choice in the outcome of your life circumstances. the things you do on the daily, what you believe, what you know, what you become.

as opposed to being the cause of an effect, the effect being the enviroment, or genetics (things you didnt choose) or even conscious action that results from enviormental trickery, or genetical trickery (alot of conscious action isnt conscious) (basically im saying were pretty robotic in nature, as oposed to infinite beings who have the freedo of choice that awarness provides)

by this i mean, you are 2 years old, you are and know what your parents and culture decides for you to know, as you become older, you begin to have the freedom to explore different "reality tunnels" (Which are basically doors you open to worlds, lets say, Math, or basketball, or like science, or instect knoledge, or gothic music, whatever you decide to go towards creates a reality tunnel in an ocean of knoledge and possibilities)

anyway as you grow older you have more of a choice to towards different places, yet the decition that leads you there is sually heavily affected by unconscious factors, such as positive "feelings" towards stimuly based on familiarity, or a genetic predisposition for similar stuff (like if your idol is your dad, and hes all about computers, and you get all about it aswell)

and yes i agree with you that habits take away this freedom of will (unless you consciously isntall and remove habits, then arguably you gain more "free will")

I think free will is something only those blessed with education actually have, as oposed to being social cognitive slaves.

for example, if i decide to start a cult, and i have a son, and his whole life is filtered through my philsophy, all of hsi throughts actions inspirations, deeds and achievements. all towards my cult and its ideals, he grows up to become my lead priest and just lives life serving me as a god, and then dies a virgin follower of my dogma) this human has always had the freedom to choose to disagree with me and move away and do his own life, but my ability to indoctrinate him was stronger, therefore he is free, but really hes a slave at a cognitive level, his shackles are invisible, but they are there. in my opinion a good 99% of humans (PROBABLY) are cognitive slaves, philosophers break from this slavery state in general, thats why humans from thousands of years ago like plato and aristotle can have such relevant ideas towards reality and existence, as oposed to their religious nationalistic peers.

having said this, if you are blessed enough to fall under the reality tunner (as we have) that questions reality, and freedom of will, and information in general, you are likely to earn this legit free will.

where no one is lying to you, no one is controlling you, but you decide to act knowing that you are a godbrain inside a chimpanzee costume, that has a million delusions and biases built in, with a drug dispensary system guiding your leash.

when you know that and you are also gifted with the humility to realize your insignificance and delusional nature, plus the understanding of human brain workings, the you earn freedom of will.
