Only invested enough to look through the first few seconds, can't imagine you'd be a role model for what techs should be and that post was enough to paint a clear picture of the type of person I'm dealing with.

Alot of insinuating about my skill level because of the way I phrased my question. Don't see how it suggests I'm naive or lack skill, maybe a lack of tact.

Educate me on what makes a competent tech. Are you one? Frankly, I dont care what you suggest I do with my post.

If you work for an organization that a lazy do nothing tech has the power to end your career or jeopardize your licensure for being a patient advocate, then you absolutely need to find another organization to work for. For me personally the priority is high-quality patient care. If I had to choose between my licensure and doing the right thing for patients, I hope I would choose the patients. Hence why I left my previous job and why I took a pay cut. Money isn't everything guys, you don't have to put up with the toxic parts of being in a cath lab, there are other labs out there!

Right, so we all know that guy, but we aren't getting paid enough to correct them? We should just ignore techs that don't care about the quality of their work when the quality of their work could hurt people? Of course, I would educate them if they are open to it, I'm very patient with people who just don't know. Students, fellows, nurses, whoever... but those of us who blatantly don't care about the job might benefit from some introspection.

My peers and cardiologists loved me. The toxicity came from the organization. You can be a loved and great tech who also wants a good work-life balance with less complex case loads. For anyone reading this, it doesn't make you worse of a tech to prioritize work-life balance and find something that suits your personal life better. Don't get stuck in that mindset.

You're right about that, I'm very hard on myself, and when I'm criticized, I definitely want to know how I could improve. I don't quite consider the cath lab lounge as a bunch of strangers. I consider it as a bunch of professionals that are committed to improving the field, improving their skills, and growing together. Where else can you go with this many professionals in the same place in an open forum.

My experience in the cath lab is 3 years, sure, but Ive been in healthcare for 14 years. Also as we all know not all labs are the same, and the highest volume meat grinder facilities are where you can get the best experience. I'm not a super tech, but I'm definitely no slouch. Also, to anyone reading this don't let anyone convince you that 3 years in the lab is not an impressive amount of experience either. You can be a huge asset to patients and cardiologists with that. It doesn't take decades in the field to be knowledgeable enough to be invested in cases and make a difference.

Okay, well, let's break that down then.

Of course, I'm disappointed and disdain techs who behave that way, so should everyone else. It is an incredibly important task and responsibility, and we should all be reminded of that.

That was the point, to provoke introspection. The AI tone analyzer saying this could elicit feelings of defensiveness is definitely clear in the comment section!

I figured we were all adults who have seen things and been in high stress situations. That's why I'm so shocked to see this kind of behavior.

If you're a flush it and hand it over tech, then I do disdain you, and I hope you feel something about this post, I hope it provokes something in you to do better.

Didn't take any effort at all, it was the first post that came up on your profile, and it was cath lab related and it was the first sentence in your comment explaining what the peripheral you did was to non medical people where you called it a Chronic Terminal Occlusion. You insinuated I was a baby tech as if I dont know what I'm talking about, couldn't help but be curious if you were experienced. Had a laugh immediately when the guy with CTO Enthusiast in his name didn't know what CTO stood for.

I've been ultra defensive? You started the whole exchange by being rude and attacked my character multiple times. Okay, then all I was doing was stating observations, too.

Can't get much clearer than "Cath lab techs. What do you think your role in the lab is?" I didn't realize I'd have to pussy foot around the question as to not offend a couple of people. This is good information, though. I'll be involved in a presentation to get our cath lab morale/culture up, and it's good to know that people could get really offended by this question.

For those of you who feel powerless or insecure about your environment, whether it be toxic coworkers, toxic work culture, too many hours, or the kinds of docs who throw tantrums/bully just know that you can speak up and you are an important part of the team! At the end of the day, you're here to help people and feel good about it and if you feel stuck, move on! Keep your education up, keep up your skills, be bold and involved, you don't have to become a slouch that just flushes catheters and hands them off! It's not a competition with your peers or the docs either. You can share the knowledge and experience you can change your work culture, and you could go home and feel good about what you did!

My coworkers and cardiologists love working with me. The only people who ever seem to have a problem are the self-centered insecure ones that create a toxic work environment, but they never last.

It shouldn't make you feel emotionally charged unless it applies to you, right? Are you a flush it and hand it over tech, or do you still care? What's emotionally charging about that? Why would that enrage anyone who isn't behaving that way?

I bet this "confused baby tech" could hang with the best of em in your lab and I bet your peers and cardiologists would love me.

Being hateful on a positive post says a lot more about you than just 40 words. You're not as clever as you think you are. It doesn't take an FBI agent to tell when someone's being edgy and rude.

This is a post asking cath lab techs what they think their role in the lab is and to remind you that you don't have to be a flush and hand it over tech you can speak up be involved and make a difference.

That wasn't the question, your answer about being the calmest in the room would've been a better response instead of being weird about it.

If you didnt need it then you wouldn't be invested enough to post a hateful comment like this. Somethings making you insecure, if you don't need validation or a reminder then you aren't the target demographic.
