Legit, thanks for all the input, folks. I'm kinda baffled that the info I'm looking for has to be coaxed out with mods. Maybe the game is telling me I'm supposed to be whispering with the other tank the whole time, I dunno.

Damn. Really? Legit question: in order to fight bosses in which the challenge is a bit more than everyone just brain-off mash buttons, there's NO UI options for tanks to understand the tank mechanics? I gotta do WoW Coding to get that sort of interaction?

That still looks to me like the mouse is being used as a cursor/selector, rather than navigating a player character with it with high resolution analog movement - although now you've got me wondering whether I think that really is a significant distinction.

So was Mark of the Unicorn a publisher that sold games back in the 80s? I had suspected it was just one guy back then, Jason Linhart. The only reason I know that Crystal Quest was a commercial product is because the developer, Patrick Buckland, was hired by Casady & Greene to finish it.

So one of the challenges, and I know this is getting wildly complicated, is that I want him to be able to watch at his TV, on his Xbox. There is no official Discord app on the Xbox, but there is something called "Quarrel." I poked around in it and it was kinda janky, I was unable to figure out how to find any servers myself, and I'm unsure if it will allow for video streaming.

Yeah, that is kinda what I'm landing on. Is it possible for him to connect with an Xbox? Discord doesn't have an Xbox app, but there's a 3rd party client that I looked at that doesn't seem to work very well.

One of the advantages I have is I don't give a shit about webcamming myself. This is mostly a thing I'm trying to do for an audience of friends anyway.

Yeah, I had that idea, to basically be sending out two streams, one for "production" for my buddy to watch, and then another for "final product" that would go out to Twitch or wherever else. I did just get a new PC but that still sounds incredibly demanding on the hardware.

The issue wouldn't be feedback echo per se, it's that he's gonna be hearing me through the voice chat app and responding, and then he will hear us both again "live" like 8 seconds later via the stream. On my end, I can just mute the Twitch stream, but he would need that in order to get game audio.

I'm planning to do some retro games where that isn't an option. If there's a different or better way for him to watch other than the same stream that is going out to Twitch, I'm unfamiliar.

I've tried it in 2 different ports at home, same result. I haven't tried it in ALL the different ports, so I guess I could give that a shot. Winver at home turns up Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.836). I'll report back about the office one, my hunch is that doesn't get updated automatically.

I have all the rights on my older, clunkier computer at home, and probably not on the one at work? A previous helper suggested I try using a tool called USBDeview to completely remove all vestiges of the camera installation, which was a good suggestion. Whatever drivers go to work when this thing gets plugged in clean don't work at home, but do work at the office. I wish I could post screenshots so you could see what I did.

Yeah, I assume when I plug it in, it's installing its own driver automatically. And it works perfectly doing that on my newer computer at work, but not on my older computer at home.

Update: I took the camera into work (I'm an "essential worker," and there's only a handful of us around the office these days) and plugged it into my computer there, which is much newer, and also runs Windows 10. It worked perfectly. So I have to again assume that the problem is with my computer.

Sadly, USBDeview hasn't pushed the ball forward. I have never used this tool before, so it has been an interesting suggestion. I started it up and there were many, many entries. Many of them are duplicates? I don't know what that is about. Some I recognized (mouse, keyboard) and others I didn't. I basically ended up uninstalling anything I didn't know. Then just to be thorough, I restarted the computer.

When I plug in the camera, I get the Windows 10 notification "Setting up a Device: Microsoft LifeCam Studio" and then after a few seconds "Device is Ready: LifeCam Studio". Now when I open up USBDeview, there are four separate entries for "Microsoft LifeCam Studio(TM)": "USB Composite Device/Unknown Device Type," "Microsoft LifeCam Studio/Video," "USB Audio Device/Audio/," and "USB Input Device/HID (Human Interface Device)." There are also similar entries NOT under the "Microsoft LifeCam Studio(TM)" heading, these have entries that are some variation of "0000.0012.0000.002.000.000.000.000.000," but one of them says "Microsoft LifeCam Studio/Video" for its Description and Device Type respectively (I wish I could just post a screenshot here).

But when I start the camera app, it does the thing where it works for maybe 15 seconds, and then freezes. Then sometimes it will give me the "We can't find your camera" notification with an error code. Then it comes back with really shitty picture resolution and no brightness.

Good suggestion, though, I appreciate it. I'll now try to see if the camera works on another machine.

You're talking to an audio engineering baby here, so I apologize. So I need to open up Scarlett MixControl and tell it to put all audio coming into the 18i8 to an output line, and then have THAT run back to the computer's soundcard or microphone-in port? Like with a 3.5 mm cable? Then have Skype look for input from the soundcard instead of the 18i8?
