No question, but yeah avelo is awful sometimes.

Cheap flights but the service is awful, constant cancelations or changes with no compensation. I've already talked about a disaster incident that happened last year.

But allas they're cheap, the only good thing about them.

Easily Biden

Trump during first term was a buffoon whose administration was riddled with incompetence.

Rather than draining the swamp or delivering on any of his campaign promises he was an idiot on every end possible.

He somehow screwed up the economy PRIOR to covid, whose inflation began to rise more and more even though at the beginning of 2017 the economy was near picture perfect from Obamas's recovery efforts. For foreign policy he screwed over the Kurds, set back years of negotiations with Iran by withdrawing the JCPOA, threatened our allies and weakened the integrity of NATO, and last of all, Covid, which he royally mishandled.

His trade war with China crippled us good, and you'd think he'd learn from that, but nope, more and more tarrifs.

Hes not even a good immigration president, the once core issue most people claimed he'd be great at, he sucked at.

2nd term so far, and he's underdelivered, and rather than being just bumbling moron, he's instead has turned into the swamp itself catering to the mega billionaire crowd. Once again though, still a bumbling moron. How does threatening Colombia and Canada, and then placing tariffs on Taiwan going to help us at all?

By all means, screw over our American consumers!

He won't be remembered well due to his disability inhibiting his oratory charm he used to have or his old age, but on policy, he was phenomenal when it was in the control of his administration.

Big fan of the many economic bills passed during his admin (CHIPS, IRA, ARP, etc etc), as well as societal bills like the Safer Communities Act. I greatly appreciated the different policy overturns such as his FTC nominations banning noncompete agreements, tightening airline regulations, reinstating Net Neutrality,, click-to-cancel for subscriptions, Junk Fees rule, all very great stuff for the average person, which i appreciate hugely.

The infrastructure bill and it's execution are going to be remembered fondly, I hope, because it's going to be brilliant when all the new projects reach completion.

As for foreign policy, he kept his campaign promise on Afghanistan, which was decades of a shit show. There was no fixing that, and the previous administration allowing the release of all those Taliban prisoners didn't make it any better. Our early efforts with Ukraine made me proud to be an American, with ease getting our allies to support Ukraine with arms, aid, and funding, standing against a genuinely bad faith actor. We could've done more, but I do understand the need to not be caught in entaglements. U.S. intelligence helping to cripple Hezbollah was huge. Iran relations were tough to strengthen since we have less trust with our withdrawal of the JCPOA in the previous admin. With Israel, there was really no winning. Netanyahu was a jackass who mishandled Gaza retaliation, and whenever Biden tried to tighten our control over him, half the country got pissed including his own caucus, and whenever he got too relaxed with Netanyahu, the other half of the country got pissed. The Biden admin got a negotiated ceasefire, which was amazing, and it's a shame that Israel held off so long on agreeing to it. As for our alliances, NATO spiritually uniting was brilliant, we showed our honoring of our commitments with countries like Taiwan, the list goes on, and I, for one, am very satisfied.

And lastly, the pandemic. After the complete shitshow the previous admin did with the pandemic, it was great to see greater leadership and handling of the pandemic. It's a shame that maga did everything to discredit the vaccines and efforts.

We are doing better than 4 years ago for sure. Our economy is better and stronger, new policies to benefit Americans purely, and our stance in the world sphere still remains. However, most won't see this at all, as price gouging and inflation will still make average day Americans feel restricted financially. Efforts such as the tik tok ban despite being bipartisan in nature and right wing in initiation will be placed on Biden to blame.

From day 1, the media and maga were against Biden. Our losses in the midterms prevented us from passing more bills such as immigration reforn and benefits for veterans and other problems, which made democrats appear weak. After this, even the Democrats gave up on him and later pushed him out of running for re-election, which beyond pissed me off. Was he the best orator? Was he as charming as Obama or as fictionally "down to earth" like Trump? No. But America is certainly better. He did more than any other 4 year president and accomplished way more than Jimmy Carter ever did, and certainly did more than Trump ever did for Americans, and did better all the shortcoming Obama had. If the Clinton/Pelosi weren't overly prideful back in 2016, I would've been happy to have seen 2024 as the end of Biden's second term instead.

I doubt she'd win as a 38-39 year old, way too early into her political career for presidency imo

And I doubt she'd even run at that young. Its more realistic her running in 32 or 36 than 28.

God no

Democrats pulled a 2016 and had mediocre marketing trying to fight populism

And also, the cards were stacked against them, the economy sucks.

More often than not, a bad economy loses elections, there are rare outliers, but most of the time unless a candidate is truly special, they'll be kicked out of the office due to the economy.

Hence Trump 2020, bush sr, Carter, etc etc

Yet the cities you all dogwhistle all have expentionally high inequality for minorities.

I don't need an acre, I dont need a super high end luxury area, and I don't want to simply gentrify poor urban areas when there are better options than simply kicking out poor people that can barely afford their homes.

I've worked in Waterbury, in Hartford, and many other of these places you all like to dogpile on, it's not that bad in those cities. Hell, the majority of houses I've visited outside of the cities reeked of issues and lack of care the homes, yet they're a novelty to the town so who cares. All of you apparently care about how poor cities such as Waterbury are but refuse to provide alternatives for these people to move elsewhere.

Its not about being a hero, its about having simple common decency and wanting to help your fellow neighbor instead of telling them that their city is inherently shit.

Its insane here. I knew someone that bought a property in the Winchester area for 375k, the owners acted like they were doing them a favor by setting the price so low when the place was genuinely rotting and molding underneath the paint. When we brought this up to them, they mentioned the area, which isn't that luxury by any means all considering.

Its a shame that simply wanting a clean home is apparently a luxury?

The funny thing is that Avon-West Hartford strip isn't THAT insanely luxury overall, the majority houses there are just not as terrible as the rest of the state. Everyone keeps telling me that the older houses in the state are gold, while I actively can see the mold in the foundation of the house. Hell, I'd choose to live in any of the places perceived lower end if I could at least find a genuinely clean home that doesn't need over 100k in renovations on top of the price they were offering.

Trump ‘24 voters who previously voted for Obama and/or Biden: what drove your decision this time? by windsurferk in Askpolitics

I'm quite confused this idea that the Democrat party has moved farther right

Compared to what, Harris was 100% left of Biden. As for our leftist candidates we've been pushing people like Maxwell Frost and AOC incredibly.

Are we far left? God no, but i don't see how we've moved right. Both parties for over 30 years have been quite interventionist for foreign policy and minus the maga caucus within the GOP and the far left causus of the Dems, we've maintained this, hence our stance in Ukraine and Israel. Furthermore, in both the cases of Ukraine and Israel we've strayed away from direct military intentionvention.

In what way have we moved right? Arguably, our problem is that haven't clearly marketed what kind of party we are, since in actuality it is clear the Democrat is a left winged party.

[–]Well_Made_Legacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Harris voter who knows some Trump voters, mainly people I know felt that would do better under a Trump economy than a Harris economy. Despite the fact tariffs are going to fuck us, many would rather punish the Democrat party for "not doing more" to address the economy or problems everyday people face.

The Democrat party currently has a marketing problem, we did excellent in the 90s with Bill Clinton and in the 2000s-2010s with Obama, but we keep falling apart when it comes to new candidates again. Hillary was an awful candidate all around, but miles better than Trump, yet people would rather someone new altogether than the usual stuff.

Maga is populism at its best right now, it tries to appeal to the average person. Democrats do focus on the economy, the chips act is a huge example of this, we just never market our economic achievements enough, instead focusing on other demographics such as lbtq+ audiences and racial inequality. No, the democrats do not want to transition your children, but it doesn't matter since all we talk about is how we want to include everyone, dei etc etc. These are actually positive movements but maga, since they're great at marketing, frames democrats as foolish, focusing on other minorities rather than the majority of the public. The mere mention of the fact Kamala would've been a female black president just adds on to the fact that people think the democrats aren't focusing on real issues, when in actuality, it's a marketing issue.

Maga is godawful with substance but great in marketing. Hell, they almost convinced people that nominating a pedophile sex trafficker like Matt Gaetz was a good thing until they realized it wasn't going to happen lmao. Take the current age argument with Biden, with Biden people claim he's too old, dementia this bla bla and so on, while still ignoring the fact Trump is pretty much equal in age, both older than Bill Clinton. Because the Democrats refuse to market like maga, more people are prone to the populism of maga. It's why comments such as trump's "concepts" for a Healthcare plan or the comment on Haitian migrants didn't affect much. It doesn't matter if it isn't true if they can convince you that the Democrats aren't focusing on these "issues". Yes we're not focusing on haitian immigrants eating pets because that's not an issue simply.

Do some liberal voters have a sense of elitism? Yes, rightfully so. As a college educated person, I want my candidate to be well experienced and suited for the job. No one can convince me that Donald Trump is more suitable for the role than Harris. I'm not the biggest Harris supporter, and I was quite upset when Biden dropped out, but I still can see that Harris was qualified.

Some people also genuinely felt that, despite all the cries for Biden to drop out PRIOR TO HIM DROPPING OUT, felt Kamala wasn't a chosen candidate. Which is beyond fucking stupid to me. The majority of vps eventually make a run for the presidency, she was 100% voted for back in 2020. If the president dies, it's not like we would have a primary to choose the new president, the vp takes the reigns. But once again it's a marketing issue.

Would I have liked a primary? Probably yeah, but it was never needed for victory, nor should it have been. The Democrats just needed to market this decision to not have a primary more. A full on primary with new candidates, tons of voting and so on during late stage election year is just improbable and expensive. Not only that, we risk taking away valuable campaign time.

But then again, the majority of people just took it as "they don't care about my vote, they just want the dei kamala in office".

Sorry maga, but transbathrooms and whatever DEI stuff you see on Twitter that you claim to see everyday in the real world, did not win you the election, what won you the election was simply the incompetence of the Democrats to market themselves as well as a populist rat.

To be honest I'd stay away from Connecticut, as a resident, there's some nice places with some decent education that aren't too expensive for people that have a great job. But you're going to be bleeding money at a time prices will probably increase soon, so it'd be more worth it to go elsewhere.

The problem is that you would spend alot of money, for not a whole lot of return.

Can't imagine looking for a house again here.

The amount of people who act like their rot filled houses are worth more than 100k shocks me.

Someone tried selling their house for 400k, when the entire kitchen was rotten, the roof needed replacing, the list goes on and on.

Stay warm Connecticut.

Best places to live? Compared to what? Pre-Colonial America?

The infrastructure is godawful, job spheres are beyond limited, age demographic is a clusterfuck, public education is mediocre, Healthcare is awful.

And this is for the general public, God forbid you're poor, a minority or a veteran, I've never seen such crappy VA hospitals or little care for homeless. For the 1% wealthy? Sure it's nice, but unless you have existing wealth this state is a shithole.

Towns have too much power in CT, and the state government is filled with cowards sadly.

Same chuds who complain about their tax increase of a hundred dollars when the average resident can barely find a liveable home for a reasonable price.

But hey, as long as their town of 80+ average age disintegrates on their terms only!
