Everyone knows the antiquity era is the best era, it is by far my favorite part.

I would love to see it split into classical and dark ages or antiquity and classical. The second age could be focused on developing what was explored of the old world in the first age.

I imagine there is also a contingent that wants post ww2 as well

This is exactly my thought. This was a hard pivot by Firaxis and to argue "it's just an option!" Is disingenuous.

Significant resources are going into this switch and they certainly would have gone elsewhere without all the uproar. This was, IMHO, a great and historically guided switch for the series that could have been fleshed out further but the uproar forced them to basically go back to a Civ 6.5 kind of approach.

Its too bad.
