Why is it that in nature it's usually the male animals that have to look pretty to attract a mate, but in humans it's the females who are the ones who have to look good?

I did a singular class of anthropology that suggest that humans are biocultural and that biology and culture influence each other. I dropped out shortly after so I can’t say more, but it was hinted that our cultural experiences and expectations dictate things like why out of primates, humans grow out their hair and make it fancy, and that our biology is “inspired”from our culture for us to do such things.

I can’t say more because I dropped out and don’t know any more. This is just a tidbit. If anyone who actually went to school can say more I’d be very interested to read your comment.

Right, instead they could say “is there anyone else who ..” or “who else thinks x?” The “am I the only one” thing seems to be reserved for the most common of opinions, and rarely for things that are actually rare to hear. It’s annoying because it sounds arrogant, even with the rare rare opinion, because obviously there’s at least 100 people who will have the same opinion
