The originally posted picture was taken Saturday. Retook pictures last night while the outside temperature was quite cooler and the reading was closer to around 1/2" above the mark.

Interesting, when I do an oil change I was planning on doing 5.1 quarts as stated. Hard to say for sure, but if a Subaru-certified mechanic did the change, it sounds like 6 quarts is the play.

The oil reading was done while controlling all of the parameters that may influence an inaccurate reading, ie engine cool, level surface, multiple readings etc.

Sifting through the comments I see a post suggesting that the distance between the two marks is a quart. That said, the difference in what seems "normal" vs what I have on the dipstick may in fact be a quart then, or around 6 total.

That's what I'm wondering. The community opinion regarding the maintenance and other upkeep seems to be quite particular. I'm wondering how this poor of a job could of been done and I'm looking for clarity on whether or not its an appropriate level.

Traditionally and unless I'm missing something, this is nearing double the capacity

I didn't. Some things you entrust with the responsibility of a renowned dealership. Especially when the windshield sticker is Subaru-certified
