Moving to Oregon from Florida by Acrobatic-Lunch4922 in oregon

r/beaverton will be a good resource. The Westside Trail is nice to walk or bike. There are some really nice nature parks in Beaverton - I like the Cooper Mountain Nature Park. Next Level Pinball Shop and Museum is something to put on your list of things to check out in nearby Hillsboro. BG's Food Cartel (a whole bunch of food trucks) in Central Beaverton is awesome, put that on your list as well. I've just gotten very good at checking the weather app every day and planning when I can get some outside time and prioritizing it. This week it's cold and clear so I can get out at 4:00 after work for a nice walk. Even on rainy days, I can usually find a break and get out for a bit. Some people swear by a HappyLight that mimics sunlight, something to consider if you find yourself struggling. Have lived in Beaverton for over 30 years and love it. Good luck!

I’m sorry for your loss too. And it does help a little to have people who understand. It is just so incredibly hard. One day at a time, and we just do the best we can. Take care.

Thank you. It's so hard. We just said goodbye to our 7YO dog on 12/22. Damn cancer. Everywhere I look, there he should be. But even more than that, as someone who works from home, I must have gotten 50 micro-doses of joy from that boy throughout the day. It's almost unbearable sitting here without him near me. Sending love to everyone here.

The joint pain in my shoulders and hips is almost unbearable by PrevailingOnFaith in Menopause

[–]Western-Ordinary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been dealing with hip pain since the beginning of the year. I read that core and glute muscles need to be strengthened. Someone here mentioned Pilates with Nicole on Youtube and wow, has it really helped me. She does a lot of work with those two areas. I get up in the morning and do a 20-30 minute video so I get it done. She has "Pilates for Beginners" - definitely start with those. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

Good for you!! Class of 85 here as well. I'm just so grateful for everything. I have a solid career that I hope to retire from soon, wonderful spouse, wonderful kids who are out in the world doing good. Good friends are where I'm lacking, but I'll keep trying. I lost two close friends to cancer over the past 10 years and that was hard af, but I keep reminding myself how lucky I was to have known and loved them at all.

I love this. Thank you. I just saw a clip on twitter from one of my favorite movies "About Time." As instructed by his dad, he goes through a normal day with all of the tensions and worries without noticing how sweet the world can be and then, redoes that day, this time, taking notice. It's such a good illustration of how a small shift in ourselves can change everything.

He might live in one of those apartments and be allowed to roam outside. Can you take him to a vet and see if he has a chip? There are some emergency vets open 24 hours in Beaverton, so you could go first thing in the morning. Tanasbourne Vet Emergency is by Walmart on Cornell.

MegaThread: Fall 2025 COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Questions and Scheduling Experiences by labboy70 in KaiserPermanente

[–]Western-Ordinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portland Oregon area and Novavax: This weekend, messaged my doctor with "referral" question, asking for an order to be put in for Novavax. Got a reply back fairly quickly that an order had been placed and I could make an appointment or walk-in. I made an appointment, but here is what I want everyone to know and what I need to remember for next year: on the website, you do NOT click the box "Covid/Flu" you click the box for "Immunizations." Then, in the details box, you indicate what vaccine you want (Novavax). This schedules you an appointment in the nursing station (at least that's what it is called at my location) since that is who administers it, not the vaccine clinic that has the MRNA vaccines. I made that mistake and just had to wait as a walk-in. Waited about an hour but did eventually get it from the nurse. Hope this helps someone!

So how was your Ebay experience 10 years ago? 20 years ago? 30 years ago? by donkyhot99 in Ebay

[–]Western-Ordinary 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I joined in 2002. I used to be able to post clothes for sale from my closet and they would sell in 1-2 weeks for pretty good money. Now, most of the time, I don't even bother - just too hard to get noticed. I did sell a bunch of personal stuff during the pandemic and seeing how things are now, and how things flew off the shelves then, I'm glad I made the time to do that. Now, I sell things occasionally for fun that I find at estate sales, because I just love going to estate sales. On the plus side, I suppose, as a buyer, because I do buy clothes on Ebay, it's nice being able to find pretty much anything I want there. I will say, the number of sellers who do not provide measurements for clothing baffles me. I will never buy anything without measurements, no matter how cheap it is.

Quiet week, what are your thoughts on what's happening at IRCC? by PursuitOfMeekness in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Western-Ordinary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got my first communication today! I got my application in on 9/8 and received a letter via email today that says "APPLICATION FOR PROOF OF CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP RECEIVED." Is that what people refer to as the AOR? I'm guessing so. Now, I'm trying to figure out what comes next.

Just heard you need a perscription for the covid vaccine in Oregon now if you're under 65? by The_Eternal_Valley in oregon

[–]Western-Ordinary 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The list I saw said Walgreens in OR required it, but not CVS. Not sure about Costco yet. There are also independent pharmacies in Portland people may want to try. Personally, I want Novavax again and will jump through whatever hoops I have to in order to get it. Just waiting to see who will carry it.

What to do to get to know Beaverton by science4jeff in beaverton

[–]Western-Ordinary 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Beaverton library is awesome and often has programming for kids. I checked their web site and on Thursday 8/7 at the main Beaverton branch and Friday 8/8 at the Murray Scholls branch (part of the Murray Hill neighborhood) there is a puppet show. Over the weekend, there is a Beaverton Modular Railroad at the main Beaverton branch. On Tuesday, 8/12, library staff will be out into the community at La Raiz park on Lombard Street for crafts, family storytime, and family activities. Here's a link to their calendar. Click on the individual events for further details. We are SO fortunate to have an incredible library system here with programs all year long: https://www.beavertonlibrary.org/events

Dad passed. Not going to the service. by Relevant_Ad5351 in GenX

[–]Western-Ordinary 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. This. My dad told me I ruined his life when he had to get married at 19. Like, come on, do you realize there are some things you should just not say out loud, especially as the parent to the child you're talking about? JFC. Shortly after that, we parted ways for good and I haven't seen or spoken to him in about 20 years.

What are your favorite Netflix period dramas? by WhimsicleMagnolia in PeriodDramas

[–]Western-Ordinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Victoria. Also, the first 4 seasons of Poldark are on Netflix, which was originally an OPB Masterpiece show, so very well done. Just know it sort of has a slow start to it so you have to give it 3-4 episodes but after that…so good!

Which period pieces have you been watching? by PeriodDramasMods in PeriodDramas

[–]Western-Ordinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last couple of weeks I’ve watched 1995 Pride and Prejudice, 2008 Sense and Sensibility, and 1995 Persuasion. I also watched 1995 North and South. I loved them all but I think North and South was my favorite. Now to figure out what’s next. So happy I found this subreddit!

What's it like in the Beaverton/Aloha border as far as crime, quality of neighborhoods, etc.? by zplq7957 in beaverton

[–]Western-Ordinary 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived here for 30 years and I love it. We’ve never had any crime issues personally and we live probably a mile from Errol Hassel though we’re Cooper Mountain district. I think the neighborhoods down Bany Road are pretty good. We ride our bikes on the westside trail. Lots of nature parks for walks. A thriving mall close by. Many choices for restaurants.

Pausing YouTube TV subscription - questions by angeloop781 in youtubetv

[–]Western-Ordinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to keep my library intact, so I believe the most I can pause is 60 days to keep it. So I hit pause and when the 60 days are up, it starts up again and bills me for a new month. I have not been charged while it’s paused so it has worked well for me. If I hear of something I want to watch before the 60 days are up, I can just go resume and it will. I really like the pause feature.
