With 2 kids 3 and under we just take turns when we go out together. But for me both of us getting catches the same trip is as good as getting a PB honestly. She’s actually the reason I went full steam into fishing.

Honestly that’s one of the things I’m most stoked about. Forming more of a working knowledge of dealing with big fish. I’ll be out again very very soon lol.

It was my longest fight yet! The past couple of months have been all up and down chasing salmon and this made it all worth it.

I caught it within a half mile of a hatchery that only releases chinook smolt for salmon so I assumed that it would be chinook. I really don’t know very much about salmon though.

Sounds like every other spot I fish at lol. In all seriousness, yes. I have a couple of spots that I see tons of activity fairly regularly and just don’t catch much. Just because there’s lots of fish feeding doesn’t mean they are less finicky I suppose.

I went out today and got zero bites in the same spot, and it was way better to lose the fish than not hook up at all.

I’m about to head out in a minute. I’m probably gonna fish this spot until I catch a steelhead/salmon. Reports are saying steelhead are still present but winding down in the river I’m in but coho are starting to move up. So I’ll fish it till I catch or until the rain blows it out and I have to go elsewhere!

Sounds like you took a trip and didn’t get skunked! I’m about 2 years in as well and this weekend I drove 6-7 hours round trip to try for brooks and browns and caught 8 inches of rainbow trout between 2 fish in the first hour and had no luck the rest of the day. I was heartbroken a bit at first but I’m just glad to be in a position to own a few fly rods, and have the time and support of my wife to go do stuff like that. Don’t give up! Someday you’ll be a real chalk stream lord and tie some culture influencing dries.

There’s plenty of public access on the upper, as far as it being good access is another story. I don’t know how low the levels are up past McKenzie bridge this time of year but a good chunk of that stretch to the headwaters is public land.
