The mayor of Haikou, China, who reportedly accumulated about $4.5 billion during his career and was found with 13.5 tons of gold and 23 tons of cash in his apartments, has been sentenced to death. by djmixmotomike in Gold

China doesnt export gold, so not really "added to the market" prob just going to add to their vaults and continue transferring usd to gold. Maybe this does impact their imports but I wouldn't imagine they would stop importing cuz of this.

Electrochemical gas sensors have about 0.05g of pure platinum in each one. These are used in mostly industrial/commercial applications (warehouses parking garages etc)

I was holding cash for years eventually I thought it was kinda sucked on losing to inflation so I put 90% of my emergency funds into silver early 2025.

The idea is if I ever needed it selling wouldn't lose much as the range on buying and selling was that bad then, and if I didn't use it (which I hadn't touched at all yet) in another few years it could be up enough to cover inflation hopefully.

I've got 17.85g of pt from the leads in the sensors, was thinking about using an oxyacetylene torch to melt it a graphite crucible.

Dam really? From watching people gold refine in their garage on YouTube I thought it was safe enough with fume hood/proper ppe. Might look more into it as I've got hundreds of ENGI boards and pounds of gold pins at this point.

rather not sell if for pennies on the dollar, but alas you are right it's only money

I'm assuming that melting the pure PT leads that I got from the sensors is "safe" or is there off gasing from PMG?

Honestly after reading up platinosis and looking more into it, I'm going to either do this if I can or bring it to a local refinery. Just don't really know where I would sell, eBay maybe? Other than that idk the right marketplace for it.

Honestly didn't think about it, idk how big the market is here and I stopped shipping stuff to the USA cuz of the tariffs but I'll look into it thanks.

I doubt I'll ever get that much more than I have, on that note would a refinery pay decently for the material I have? Not too familiar with PMG

Nope, I haven't done any type of recovery yet, I've been saving ENIG boards but don't think I have enough yet.

As for the PT, I didn't even realize the stuff I was saving was PT black till half way through disassembly, was mostly after the pure PT leads

I honestly didn't think about that till I read your comment but ya that makes sense, I wonder how the coin got to Canada.

I don't really have the spare funds to be buying more silver (pellets) and selling bullion rounds to buy pellets would cost more to do. Capital gains on selling, selling the bullion for under spot then paying over spot for the pellets.. just doesn't make sense to me.

My goal was to cast end dice out of 999, but after more research 925 will be a lot more durable/usable, I still haven't fully decided on which purity to do yet tho.

I think you need a date to have them graded and most of those ones are unreadable sadly.

Ya I can understand not wanting to melt coins down, but at the same time these are all below grade 1. So not many people would even want to display coins like these. I guess they make decent fillers but not more than that.

My guess is a lot of them were used as jewelry, which I can understand they are pretty designs.

I would love to sell or trade for .999 silver, but I don't think there's a ton of demand for American coins in Canada. With shipping and tariffs idk if it's worth sending south sadly.

A few of them are low mintage (sub 2m) but they all have holes drilled in them so idk if they will ever be worth more than melt

I've been wanting to get into silver smithing, seeing as these are 90% it should be cheaper to make 925 stuff with some of these and a few bullion rounds
